Record-Breaking Day at Ben-Gurion Airport

elalWorkers at Ben-Gurion International Airport arrived to work on Thursday, 16 Elul 5773 wondering if the prediction will be actualized. Thursday is expected to become the busiest day ever at Israel’s international airport.

Despite the economic belt-tightening policies of the government it does not appear to have deterred Israelis from traveling abroad. Close to 1.5 million travelers have passed through the airport’s Terminal 3 since the beginning of August 2013 and Thursday arrived with a likelihood of breaking all previous records. Early in the day the airport appeared full to capacity. No less than 73,000 travelers are expected to pass through the airport by midnight, and if this does occur, it will set a new record.

According to the digital flight information boards, there are almost 430 flights being handled in the airport Thursday. Most of the incoming flights will be carrying returning Israelis who traveled during the summer and now wish to get the children back in time for the first day of school.
