In an unprecedented move, the Tel Aviv District Court on Thursday, 16 Teves 5774, sentenced Dan Dankner, a former chairman of Bank Hapoalim to a year in prison. Dankner was convicted of fraud, breach of trust, and harming the management of the bank in the plea bargain agreement accepted by the court. In addition to the jail sentence Dankner will pay a 1 million NIS fine and remain on probation for an additional year.
The State Prosecutor asked for an 18-month prison sentence.
