Smell From NJ Brush Fire Carries To NYC – More Than 90 Miles Away


fdnyThe odor of smoke from a brush fire in southern New Jersey could be smelled as far away as New York City.

The fire burned about 30 acres along Batsto Road in Wharton State Forest on Sunday.

The smoke could be seen for miles.

Crews reportedly dropped water from airplanes and used backfires to contain the blaze.

New York City’s emergency management office alerted residents in Brooklyn and Staten Island that they might smell smoke from the blaze, which is about 90 miles away.

The fire did not threaten any structures and there are no reports of injuries.
