23:46: John Kerry announces that the U.S. will provide $47 million to help humanitarian situation in Gaza.

23:22: Lebanese media report: Long-term humanitarian ceasefire to be signed in Cairo.

Despite press reports that a ceasefire could be signed as soon as Tuesday morning, others are taking a more cautious approach.

ABC News correspondent Alexander Marquardt quotes a senior State Department official saying the sides may take several days to work out the kinks.

23:11: There is a report of Possible terrorist infiltration in Nachal Oz area near Gaza border, there is a  huge IDF presence in the area, roads have been shut and residents  have been urged to remain indoors.

21:09: Rocket launchers for longer range rockets capable of striking Gush Dan were detected and destroyed by the IDF operating in Beit Hanoun in N. Gaza.

21:00: Golani soldiers explain that after seven of their colleagues were killed as  a result of the rocket attack against an armored personnel carried, they got on their hands and knees, crawling around to collect the body parts R”L.

20:46: President Shimon Peres today visited the homes of families whose loved ones, soldiers, were buried on Sunday.

  • Mr. Peres steps down from office on Monday, Rosh Chodesh Av.

20:37: The IDF developed a heavy armored personnel carrier such as the Namir but it was not manufactured because of budgetary concerns and the feeling such heavy APCs are no longer needed.

The APCs are too light and outdated, and do not carry the ‘Wind Breaker’ rocket defense system that is part of the defense system of Israel’s new generation tanks. Many feel that sending soldiers into areas like Shajaia in outdated underequipped APCs as is the case today guarantees catastrophic results.

20:36: Hundreds of Hamas terrorists in Gaza have been eliminated in the first four days of the ground operation.

20:32: Turkey declares three days of mourning over the loss of life in Gaza decrying IDF “collective punishment”.

20:28: Minister Naftali Bennett told Channel 2 News moments ago that he will use all his abilities to make certain Israel does not accept any ceasefire prior to completing the IDF mission. Bennett, a major in the IDF reserves serving in the elite Sayeret Matkal unit explained despite the pain of seeing IDF soldiers being killed and wounded, significant progress is being made and the IDF plan is moving ahead as hoped. He stresses that Israel cannot permit any ceasefire today while the threat of rockets and tunnels is a real one, an existential one for so many border area communities.

20:23: Over six rockets exploded in the Eshkol Region in the last two hours. B”H without fatalities or injuries.

  • Retired Major-General Yoav Gallant explains the tunnels in Gaza have existed for over 20 years, citing he was a battalion commander and he was aware of their existence back in the day. He feels the operation taking place is important and justified and despite the heavy price, the tunnels should be eliminated

20:22: Sirens sounding in Kfar Aza, Kibbutz Saad and area communities.

20:15: One of the IDF soldiers who was killed in battle today was Staff Sgt.Yuval Dagan, 22, from Kfar Sava. The levaya began at 20:00 in the military cemetery in Kfar Sava.

20:14: Gaza reports six dead in IAF attack in southern Gaza.

19:56: Hundreds protesting against Operation Protective Edge outside the Defense Ministry on Kaplan Street in Tel Aviv.

19:53: The IDF confirms seven soldiers have been killed in the past 24 hours bringing the death toll in Gaza fighting to 25.

19:25: Haaretz reporter Barak Ravid just tweeted “FM Lieberman: We will work to prevent Al-Jazeera TV from operating in Israel”

19:24: Red alerts now in Sha’ar Hanegev Regional COuncil area.

18:56: Two rockets were just intercepted near Tel Aviv.

18:54: Red alerts are ringing now in Rishon Letzion, Ramalla, Rechovot.

18:00: Sirens now in the Zikim area.

17:56: Sirens in the Eshkol Council region, Shlumit, Bnei Netzarim, and N’vei

17:51: The 4-month-old Bedouin child that sustained a serious head injury in a rocket attack near Dimona earlier in the week is showing signs of improvement. The child is admitted to Soroka Hospital in Beersheva.

17:47: Two Iron Dome intercepts over Ashkelon. 21 rockets fired at the city today and 12 rockets intercepted, Channel 2 reports.

17:43: Sirens to Ashkelon industrial Zone, Eshkol Council, Bnei Shimon and surrounding areas. Multiple sirens.

17:38: A rocket landed in an open area in Gan Yavne. No injuries at that location.

17:35: Additional military wounded arriving at Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva during the past half hour, with Channel 10 reporting eight additional wounded. The flow of military ambulances continues at that medical center at this time.

17:31: EMS treating people in hysteria as a result of the last wave of rockets to Ashkelon.

17:29: An IDF soldier sustained moderate injuries a bit earlier in a mortar shell attack in an area of S. Israel near the Gaza border. The mortar shells striking the Gaza border communities arrive without a warning siren due to the proximity of the communities to the border. The soldier was injured in his abdomen, transported to Barzilai Hospital.

17:27: A home in Ashkelon was hit with shrapnel in the last rocket attack. Damage is significant but B”H no fatalities or injuries reported. The shrapnel may have been from Iron Dome fragments and not a rocket. Too early to determine.

17:14: Reports of fragments falling into Ashkelon from rocket attack. No other immediate reports of injuries.

  • An IDF soldier with shrapnel injuries to his abdomen reported in moderate condition, transported to Barzilai Hospital.

17:13: US State Dept official reports Secretary Jerry and his contingent are now en route to Cairo from Ireland.

17:09: Sirens to Ashdod, Gadera, Ashdod, Yavne and surrounding areas. Multiple sirens in many areas

17:06:  Thousands of people from the Israeli Arab sector protesting against Gaza operation in Nazareth waving PLO flags.

17:01: Sirens sounding in the Ashkelon Coast and Eshkol Councils.

16:49: The terrorists eliminated this morning that exited a tunnel, heading to perpetrate an attack in a kibbutz, were dressed in IDF uniforms. Only after soldiers confirmed they had Kalashnikov assault rifles and not IDF weapons was the order given to fire at the terrorists.

16:35: Anyone wishing to sign up for the Eleph L’Mateh program to be mispallel for IDF soldiers may do so by using this link .

16:28: IDF SPOKESMAN: So far today, 62 rockets were fired from Gaza and have hit Israel. An additional 14 rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome.

16:10: Sirens in the Ashkelon Coat Regional Council.

15:59: Sirens in Zikim and Karmiya.

15:55: Soroka Medical Center, Beersheva: Three IDF wounded arrived in the past hour, B”H not seriously wounded. Three soldiers remain in serious/stable condition in the hospital. The Golani Brigade Commander is going to be released later in the day. He agreed to adhere to doctors on Sunday, urging him to remain for observation for a day.

15:43: Justice Minister Tzipi Livni on Monday visited the Shar HaNegev communities in a solidarity visit with residents and soldiers. While she was there a mortar shell exploded near her location. There were no injuries. The senior minister also interviewed with CNN and the BBC while in the  south along with other foreign media.

15:40: Over 160 terrorists have been killed since the IDF launched its ground operation in Gaza. 45 entrances to tunnels were discovered, some inside home and mosques. Since midnight, the IDF attacked 130 terror targets in Gaza.

15:37: Golani soldiers discovered two shafts leading to tunnels following a shootout with terrorists in Shajaia. Two terrorists were killed in the shootout.

15:28: Gaza reporting four dead in IDF bombing of the hospital in Dir el-Balach.

15:27: Fifteen wounded IDF soldiers and civilians were transported to Barzilai Hospital during the morning hours. There is an additional twenty-one soldiers recuperating in the hospital.

15:26: PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) is meeting in Qatar with Hamas leader Khalid Meshal in the hope of advancing a Gaza ceasefire.

15:20: Sirens sounding in Nachal Ohz and Alumim

15:15: The IDF is evacuating a Gazan youth with moderate injuries to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon.

  • No injuries reported in earlier rocket attacks.

14:04: Sirens sounding in Ashkelon and the Ashkelon Coast communities.

13:46: Sirens sounding in the Eshkol Cocunil.

13:28: Finance Minister Yair Lapid, members of his staff and Health Minister Yael German visited Ashkelon’s Barzilai Hospital. Speaking to the media shortly after four rounds of rocket fire, Lapid stated the 30 million shekels needed to complete the project to fortify the emergency room and intensive care units have been allocated. He added that the treasury is giving an “Iron Dome” to residents by delaying income tax and value added tax payments along with other measures to assist them during this difficult time.

13:26: B”H it appears there are no injuries in the last wave of rocket fire.

  • Sirens sounding in Nachal Ohz and Alumim.

13:18: Sirens sounding in Ashkelon, the city industrial center, Be’er Ganim, Bat Hadar, Bat Ganim, and surrounding areas. Multiple sirens in some areas.

13:12: Twenty-two wounded IDF soldiers and officers remain in Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva. Three of them remain in serious condition, eight moderate and the remainder light. Most of the injuries are from shrapnel.

13:10: Sirens sounding in Nitzanim, Nitzan, Nitzan Bet, Ashdod, Bnei Darom, and surrounding communities.

13:00: Sirens sounding in Zikim and Karmiya.

12:51: Sirens sounding in Kfar Aza and Kibbutz Saad.

12:44: A rocket landed in an open area in Rishon L’tzion earlier resulting in a fire.

11:58: Via Tweeter from US Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro: In the shelter at @usembassyta yet again.  What Israelis throughout the country have been living with due to Hamas terrorist rocket fire.

11:54: About 2,000 people participated in the levaya for Golani Captain Tzvi Kaplan HY”D in Haifa earlier today.

11:52: 18 rockets were fired into Israel, of which seven were intercepted by the Iron Dome. One landed in Ashdod resulting in damage. B’chasdei Hashem most of the rockets landed in open areas. Tens of rockets have been fired into Israel since the morning hours.

11:46: B’chasdei Hashem, at present, there are no reports of injuries from the large barrage of rocket fire to many areas of the country.

  • There were three consecutive sirens in Ashdod and two rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome.
  • Four M75 Hamas-made rockets were fire at the Tel Aviv region.
  • Two rockets were intercepted over Tel Aviv by the Iron Dome.

11:44: There are no reports of injuries in southern Israel at present. Emergency agencies are still assessing the situation in Gush Dan and other regions.

11:41: Sirens sounding in Ashdod, Tel Aviv, Yaffa, Gush Dan, Rishon L’Tzion, Bnei Brak, Givat Shmuel, Givatayim, Zikim, Karmiya, Beit Shemesh, Ramle, Ashkelon, Matte Yehuda Regional Council and other areas.

11:39: Two IDF soldiers wounded lightly in Gaza fighting are about to arrive at Barzilai Hospital in the coming minutes. The soldiers in Barzilai listed in serious condition are showing signs of improvement B”H.

11:38: From Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon one can see the Iron Dome intercepting a number of rockets.

11:34: Sirens sounding in Gan Yavne, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Be’er Tuvia, Kiryat Malachi and the surrounding areas. Multiple sirens in each area.

11:17: Minister of Homefront Defense Gilad Erdan calls on Israel not to accept a ceasefire until such time the vast Gaza terrorist tunnel threat is eliminated.

11:15: Sirens sounded in the Shar HaNegev Council a short time ago. No injuries reported.

10:38: The name of another Golani soldier killed in Gaza is cleared for release. Sgt. Moshe Malko HY”D, 20, from Yerushalayim was among the 13 soldiers of Golani killed in Gaza fighting on motzei Shabbos and Sunday morning. The levaya for Sgt. Malko will take place today at 16:00 in the Har Herzl Military Cemetery.

10:16: Sderot: One rocket victim sustained light shrapnel injuries in the last attack. Three others are being transported with psychological trauma, Ichud Hatzalah is reporting.

09:54: It appears the home that was hit was unoccupied. There is a fire as was reported and firemen are concerned as the blaze is near the home’s propane gas tanks.

09:52: There are reports from Sderot of significant property damage and a fire as a rocket slammed into a home. B’chasdei Hashem no serious injuries are being reported at this time.

09:49: One rocket landed in Sderot. IDF, EMS and police en route to the scene. More to follow.

09:45: The IDF spokesman reports forces during night targeted 53 terror sites in Gaza including five underground tunnels.

09:43: Another siren in Sderot, Gavim and neighboring communities.

09:40: Multiple sirens in Eshkol Council, S’dot Negev Council and area communities.

09:29: Walla News reports as many as 15 terrorists were killed by the IDF near Kibbutz Erez earlier.

09:13: Retired IDF Brigadier-General Effie Eitam told Channel 2 News that it is time to be a bit less naïve, explaining there can be no doubt that Norway, Japan, the United States and others knew the donor nation funds were being used by Hamas but preferred to turn a blind eye. “Now Israel is forced to deal with the situation” he explained.

09:11: There are injuries among IDF soldiers from the shootout with terrorists near Kibbutz Erez. Details to follow when they become available.

09:07: Sirens are sounding in Yad Mordechai, Netiv HaAsarah, Ohr HaNer, and Erez.

08:58: The IDF Spokesman reports 10 terrorists were killed in the attempted infiltration near Erez. Two terror cells entered Israel via a tunnel, both detected by the air force. The cells were targeted from the air, eliminating a number of terrorists. Simultaneously, ground forces responded and area residents were instructed to remain locked indoors. The responding force eliminated the second cell. B’chasdei Hashem another Hamas attack was prevented.

08:51: At least six terrorists infiltrating into Israel near Kibbutz Erez and Kibbutz Nir Am have been killed by IDF soldiers. They were detected and attacked by ground and air forces. Some managed to flee but most were killed, thereby preventing a terror attack. Residents of the communities remain locked in their homes as the ‘all clear’ signal has yet to be given.

08:34: Hospital Update: Information that is available. There are also wounded in other hospitals.

Tel Hashomer Hospital (Tel Aviv): Three soldiers were transported during the night with one in serious condition and two light. There are 12 others in addition to the new arrival, of whom two are in serious condition.

Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon: Six soldiers were transported during the night. Three remain, in light condition. the others were discharged.

Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva: 12 soldiers remain admitted with two in serious condition, five moderate and four light. A 4-month-old Bedouin child wounded in a rocket attack is admitted as well, still in serious condition.

Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikvah: Fourteen Gaza residents are admitted with two listed in serious condition.

08:31: Exchanges of gunfire between terrorists and IDF soldiers near the northern Gaza border.

08:09: Two rockets were intercepted in the Sderot and Shar HaNegev areas.

08:07: Shar HaNegev and Ashkelon Coast Regional Council roads blocked at this time due to an ongoing security incident in those southern areas. Residents of area communities are instructed to remain indoors and lock their doors.

08:06: Five wounded soldiers in light condition were transported to Barzilai Hospital during the night.

07:50 Six IDF soldiers were transported to Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer Hospital during the night. Two are listed in serious condition and the other light.

07:10: Soldiers from Golani’s Egoz unit eliminated ten terrorists in fighting in Shajaia during the night.

06:19: Gaza reports finding an additional 34 bodies in Shajaia.

03:35: Red alerts ringing now in Yad Mordechai, Nativ Asara and surrounding areas.

02:35: Red alerts now in Sderot.

01:30: Sirens are ringing now in the Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council.

00:31: Red alerts ringing in Shaar Hanegev regional Council.

00:09: US Secretary of State John Kerry is expected in Cairo tomorrow for ceasefire talks.

00:05: Channel 2 Israel reporter Ohad Chemo quotes a source who was at Gaza’s Shifa Hospital as the bodies of the dead from the Shejaiya terror neighborhood were being carried in, and said that women were screaming that this was all Hamas’s fault and that Hamas was getting all their children killed.

00:03: The IDF has released the names of five of the 13 IDF soldiers killed early Sunday morning in Gaza.

They are:

Maj. Tzafrir Bar-Or, a commanding officer in the Golani Brigade, 32, from Holon.

Cpt. Tzvi Kaplan, a commanding officer in the Golani Brigade, 28, from Kdumim.

Sgt. Gilad Yaakovi, a combat soldier in the Golani Brigade, 21, from Kiryat Ono.

Sgt. Oz Mandelovitz, a combat soldier in the Golani Brigade, 21 from Avtalion.

Nissim Sean Karmeli, a combat soldier in the Golani Brigade, 21, from Ra’anana.

Sean Carmeli, a Texan, is identified as one of the two dual US-Israeli citizens.

The five will be laid to rest on Monday.

  1. Why must they kill them? Can’t they just ask them to discontinue the tunnel activity? Certainly if they’re asked nicely they’d oblige!? No?

  2. 17:06 thousands of people from Israeli Arab sector protesting Gaza operations and waving PLO flags….Why don’t we transport these good people to Ashkelon and Eshkol region and have them demonstrate in the streets while the rockets fly?

  3. No words can describe the pain for the fallen IDF troops. HaShem Yerachem. For each one of them, Israel should eliminate three imprisoned terrorists.
