Rav Ariel: I Never Signed a Petition Against the Giyur Law – Insists His Signature Was Forged

arielRamat Gan Chief Rabbi Yaakov Ariel Shlita insists his signature was forged on a petition signed in opposition of the Giyur Bill. “Certainly giyur must be controlled by the Chief Rabbinate but the assault is not the way to go” the rav is quoted saying.

The Kippa dati leumi website reports the unity that was believed to exist among prominent rabbonim against the new Giyur Law has rapidly deteriorated. There are 300 rabbonim reportedly signed to the petition against the law, including senior poskim and rabbonim in the dati leumi community including Rabbi Yaakov Ariel Shlita. Speaking with Kippa, Rabbi Ariel explains someone must have forged his name for he never signed the petition. He insists he was unaware his name appears on the petition.

It is also reported that after learning Rabbi Ariel denied the authenticity of his name on the petition, many rabbonim have removed their names as well. They signed believing Rabbi Ariel signed and after learning Rabbi Ariel’s name was added without authorization, they recanted.

Rabbi Ariel is also quoted saying that while there are differences of opinion, he relies on Rabbi Chaim Druckman Shlita regarding matters of giyur.

Rabbi Ariel stresses the importance of having agreement in Eretz Yisrael and he feels the Chief Rabbinate of Israel is the body authorized to address this issue and it must approve the process.

and the price of tea keeps going up

King Chezkiah was miraculously saved because PRIOR he had enforced the ENTIRE nation to be frum jews

  2. Should they also join together with all the other movements and parties in knesset?

What do they have in common?

Name was the last that the srugim ,except for Charda’l,stood for judaism?

In the past, Likud was invariably better than the Srugim, and worked more or less together with the charedim,

    Should they have joined them?

Who went out and with declared intent destroyed that Traditional Pact?

They should coalesce against shabbos and kashrus,Giyur,?
    Piece of cake!

Count on the Srugot to be up for that(e.g, with Ger for Barkat)!

The charedim should have worked closer with charda’l in the past
Hopefully, the lessons will be gainfully employed

The fault goes both ways, however .Who tolerated, with ample warning, Bennet,Shaked & Co. getting to where they are now and are heading?

    Achdus for what?

    You desire achdus? wonderful!

    Defend Judaism just for once

    Or at least pretend to

    Psalm 97:10

  3. @6, Achdus is the ideal but one cannot sacrifice principles for “achdus.”
If Rav Ariel thinks that a petition is the wrong way to achieve the results, then who am I to say otherwise?
I sincerely hope that the huge responsibility that he gives to Rav Druckman in this matter will not be misplaced and that Rav Shlita will defend our traditions.
We should all pray for him to have wisdom.
