Christian supporters of Israel from around the world will be converging on Israel during Sukkos for their annual Tabernacle celebration. According to officials at the International Christian Embassy of Jerusalem (ICEJ), thousands will be participating as is the case every year. This year they will take part in a major event at the newly-opened Jerusalem Payis Arena too, on 14 October.
Another major event will be a joint Jewish Christian prayer event near Hulda Gate and the Kosel HaDromi of Har Habayis. Among those calling to cancel the event are the chief rabbis, Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Shlita and Rabbi David Lau Shlita. In their letter they explain one cannot prevent peoples of all faiths from praying but that is different than sponsoring and organizing an inter-faith event, which is prohibited. They explain the mutual respect from one religion to another must be maintained by not compromising the beliefs of one another, calling on event organizers to cancel this planned prayer gathering.

What a pleasure to read such a Kiddush HaShem! Assertive expression of Da’as Torah, with respect. Unfortunately, expect to see this p’sak misconstrued in the Media. I received a similar p’sak from the Z’kan HaRabbonim in America in the mid 90’s. He was clear– respect all, but not to jointly-sponsor such events.
