Finance Minister Yair Lapid spoke to the media regarding his recent controversial press conference, which he held on Shabbos a few weeks ago. The minister had his staff send emails to members of the press requesting they RSVP for a media event he decided to hold on a Shabbos afternoon. The minister was condemned by Shomer Shabbos MKs and coalition members for causing so much chilul Shabbos because he felt compelled to get a message out to the public on a Shabbos. Among the most audible critics were ministers and MKs from the Bayit Yehuda party, a member of the coalition.
On Sunday 11 Tishrei, the day after Yom Kippur, the minister used a Yesh Atid party function to announce he erred, admitting the press conference on Shabbos was incorrect and he admitted he should not have acted as he did. He explained he now realizes he caused so many people to be mechalel Shabbos. The senior minister explained he realizes he acted incorrectly and he was sorry for the incident.
