Is Gafne Ruling Out Entering a Coalition with Bayit Yehudi?

gafneWhile the upcoming general elections for the 20th Knesset may be unique in some ways, it appears that with each passing day the party receiving the presidential mandate will not have an easy time assembling a coalition.

Yesh Atid has backtracked from its previous position, now insisting it will sit with chareidim and the party does not rule out any party. The chareidi parties have stated they will never enter a coalition with Yesh Atid however. Yisrael Beitenu has announced it will not sit with the chareidim, but will sit with Yesh Atid. No one wishes to include the Arab parties which will comprise about 10% of the Knesset, in a coalition. We cannot say if Shas will sit with Eli Yishai’s party. And now, it appears Moshe Gafne of Yahadut Hatorah may not be willing to sit in a coalition with Bayit Yehudi.

Gafne sent a letter to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu citing examples of ongoing anti-chareidi government policy in ministries headed by the Bayit Yehudi party.

Gafne points out that the Ministry for Senior Citizen Affairs headed by Minister Uri Orbach set criteria for aid for centers that work with senior citizens and limited the criteria to “Zionist” centers and no mention is made of facilities catering to chareidim. Mention is made in the eligibility requirements of conforming to “Zionist heritage”. After reviewing the criteria Gafne explains the ministry gives preferential treatment to facilities in which both men and women study, once again removing chareidim and their gender separated facilities from the funding eligibility requirements.

Gafne cited other examples from the Ministry of Religious Services. He adds “all of this is being done at a time when Yesh Atid is not in the coalition and this is proof that not all the blame for the anti-chareidi policies can be placed on Yesh Atid, as clearly Bayit Yehudi continues there policies after Yesh Atid is out of the coalition.

Gafne added that Yahadut Hatorah will have to weigh its decision, to decide if the chareidi party can join the dati leumi party in a coalition government.

  1. Just a game move!!!

BTW when Gafne was in the coalition – no RZ Rabbi ever received appt as a Dayan, Rav or KASHRUS Mashgiach.

  2. If a coalition agrees to offer a cancellation of penal sanctions for refusing to serve in the army, any and all hareidi parties (excluding the Eidis hareidis which doesn’t participate in Israeli electoral politics) would jump at the offer.

If Bayit Yehudi is more concerned with drafting hareidim than in keeping the settlements in the West Bank, then of course they couldn’t sit in a coalition – but most Bayit Yehudi votes love the settlements more than they hate the yeshivos.

  3. Gafne has been railing against Habayit Hayehudi and against the D”L community for a very long time. He has also been stating that he would like to join a left-wing coalition. While Moetzet Gdolei Hatorah may force him to sit in a right-wing coalition with Habayit Hayehudi, Gafne is doing everything in his power to ensure that that will not happen.

  4. At the senior/elderly level, men & women play BINGO, attend shuirim, do gardening & maybe hum HATIKVA in undertones, MK Gafne..

  5. I cant take the chareidisha politicians. Stop with the sinah, JUST STOP. Eli Yishai is the only one on the right path, he definitely has my vote.

  6. Gafne does not want to sit with Bayit yehudi so the alternative is endorsing Buji and Livni.Only Hellenist anti-semite,anti religeous Erev Rav a descendent of Egyptian pagens would go into the Goverment with Livni, who endorses gay marriage, who hates relligion and want Israel to go back to the Aushwitz border, and make Israel a secular country.
Gafne is like Burg he should join the Communist party with
    Burg and Zoabi,

  7. I am a typical Bayit yehudi voter and I can tell you unequivocally

I love the Torah, I love the Land and I love the Nation.

  8. Gafne is just terrified about losing votes. He knows full well that Bayit Yehudi countered Lapid every chance they got, including getting significant money restored to Yeshivas.

Yes, there are different outlooks and approaches, but as everyone else in society has had to make sacrifices, even the IDF, Chareidi politicians won’t budge a bit.

They don’t understand that they were the cause of Lapid getting the number of seats by their heavy handed approach to everything and just making more and more demands and not giving an inch on anything. (nothing to do with Halacha)

There have been plenty of instances where people got money as if they were full time learners and they weren’t. That’s fraud! Also, those taking money falsely, with the help of Yeshivas’s and other Chareidi organizations are in effect causing those in need and real learners to suffer because there is only so much money to go around.

The only thing I can say to Gafne is; be a mentch, act like a mentch and speak like a mentch.
