Health officials in Gaza have detected bird flu in Khan Yunis. Health officials in Gaza and Israel are working to quarantine birds in a 10km (6 mile) range of the infected birds. This includes inside chicken coops in Gaza border communities of southern Israel.

Israeli health officials fear the disease may spread to Israeli communities if it is not addressed aggressively. Health officials call on persons permitting chickens to roam freely in a yard to keep them in proper coops and not to permit them to roam freely, with the latter significantly increasing the chance of spreading the disease.
