The unseasonable weather that began on the last day of Pesach continues as thunderstorms have been ongoing in Yerushalayim since the early hours of the morning. There is continuous lightning and hail accompanying heavy rainfall.

While temperatures earlier were unseasonably cold, this is not the case today as the temperature on Thursday morning 27 Nissan in the capital is 16C (60F). Heavy rainfall is reported in other areas of the country too and forecasters predict the storm will continue until Thursday evening.

On Sunday YWN-ISRAEL reported the Sanzer Rebbe Shlita explained the unseasonable weather, labeled “bizarre” by forecasters, is actually a bracha because of shmitah.

  1. When unusual things happen, we should look at the results to have some sort of understanding as to why HASHEM caused the events. The most immediate result of the storms has been the destruction of crops planted by those not keeping SHMETAH. In previous years there were locus that ate all the SHEMTAH crops or other events that destroyed them. It would seem that the lessons of previous times has not penetrated the stubbornness of certain Jews. Let us hope that they learn this lesson and expand it to the rest of their activities.

  2. it was raging!!!!!!!! There was this constant roar in the sky as if military operations were taking place with lightning and thunder… scary.

  3. Aryeh, the crops affected were fruit, which grows by itself and can (Ramban: must) be eaten in kedusha, and hay, which was planted or began to grow before shmitta began. What dire lesson are “they” to learn and expand from this?
