Battle for Control of Chinuch Atzmai Continues between Shlomei Emunim and Degel Hatorah

porThe machlokes continues between the Shlomei Emunim faction of Agudas Yisrael and Degel Hatorah for control over Chinuch Atzmai.

Journalist Yaakov Rivlin reports in the Kehilla newspaper that the head of Shlomei Emunim, Deputy Education Minister Meir Porush has filed a suit against former Bnei Brak Mayor Mordecai Karelitz, with the latter being a dominant personality for Degel Hatorah in Chinuch Atzmai.

Rivlin explains at this stage, it is not an actual suit but a call to appear before the leadership of Chinuch Atzmai, which is controlled at present by a Degel majority, five verses the four Agudas Yisrael representatives. However, Rav Baruch Shmuel Deutsch is affiliated with the Yerushalmi faction of the litvish camp and therefore, it is possible for him to vote with Agudas Yisrael against Degel.

In his lawsuit Porush details the history of Chinuch Atzmai, and Degel’s failures in adhering to agreements as per what was discussed in the joint meeting of the Moetzas Gedolei Yisrael of Agudah and Degel in the Novatel Hotel in 2008.

Porush alleges Degel’s leadership of Chinuch Atzmai is not what it should be and it involves deception and failures to adhere to agreements including a decision both parties would run the organization as equal partners.
