Six advanced choppers, described as among the most advanced regarding their technological capabilities, are joining the Israel Police battle against terror, crime and traffic deaths.

The choppers can carry more personnel, assist in firefighting, and capable of directing ground forces operating below. Officials stress these are just some of the capabilities of the choppers.

Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan said “A strong qualitative police force must be given the most advanced equipment possible to protect the public at large and these are the newly-acquired helicopters. These choppers will permit a faster more efficient police aerial response”.

The new helicopters were revealed at a ceremonious event in Dallas, Texas over the weekend in the presence of the department’s Chief of Operations Alon Levavi as well as other officials.

Some of the new choppers will replace sorely outdated ones still being used, for over 20 years. They will arrive in the coming months with the first four arriving first, described having a H125 motor. Two additional choppers will arrived in mid-2017. These are twin-engine choppers.

Elbit won the tender issued by the Ministry of Public Security and delivery will be coordinated with AirBus Helicopters, which was selected by Elbit. The choppers met customized specifications to meet Israel Police needs. Over recent months a number of police pilots were sent to the USA to train on the new helicopters and participate in training exercises.
