Man Who Threatened To Kill Obama & NYPD Commish Now Busted Over Penn Station Threat

A Bronx man busted last year for threatening to assassinate the President and the NYPD’s top cop was arrested Wednesday for threatening to blow up Penn Station, sources said.

Jonathan Avalos, 19, allegedly made four calls between Sunday and Tuesday to a tipline run by the Port Authority, threatening to detonate bombs at transportation hubs.

In one call, Avalos said he would set off a grenade in Penn Station, sources said. In the others, the caller claimed he would blow up Newark Penn Station and the A train station at 175th St.

Officials at the Port Authority’s Criminal Investigations Bureau traced the calls to Avalos’ cell phone.

An investigator called him Tuesday night, and police paid a visit to his Bronx home, but he wasn’t home.

Avalos called back Wednesday, and said he was planning to detonate the explosives by the end of the day.

Port Authority investigators convinced him to meet with them near Yankee Stadium. He agreed and was collared soon later.

Avalos was charged with four counts of aggravated harassment, a felony. He will be arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court.

Avalos, who investigators believe has psychological problems, was arrested a year ago after making 911 calls threatening to kill President Obama and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

He was arrested when the calls were traced to his apartment in Norwood. That case is still pending.
