Air Force Pilot & F-22 Fighter Missing [UPDATE – Wreckage Found In Alaska]

Rescue teams are searching for a fighter jet that went missing during a routine nighttime training mission out of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska. The Air Force pilot and his F-22 Raptor lost contact with air traffic control at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Using HH-60 helicopters and an HC-130, the Alaska Air National Guard is searching an area northeast of Cantwell, Alaska, the last known location of the aircraft.

“Right now, our top priority is to try to bring the pilot home safely,” said Col. Jack McMullen, 3rd Wing commander. “We will continue to search until we find our pilot. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of this missing Airman.”

The Air Force is withholding the name of the pilot until his condition is determined.

The F-22 is the military’s newest and most technologically advanced fighter. It’s a one-man, stealth supercruiser designed for air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. The Air Force has 137 of them in its fleet, each valued at roughly $143 million.

UPDATE: The Air Force says they have found the apparent wreckage of the F-22 that went missing Tuesday night.

  1. Obama secretly sold it to China to help pay for his Health Care system! With $143 million, that should keep the Health Care system running for 10 seconds!

  2. YWN eds – Please in future include in the title which country the news refers to. So this headline should have read “U.S. Air force pilot missing”. Until I opened and read the article I didnt know if it was refering to an israeli pilot chas vsholom

  3. An American pilot is down and missing – and all you fools can do is make jokes.

In the name of my father, who was an immigrant German Jew who joined the Army on the day he became a citizen in 1943, and who as a medical officer was at the liberation of Dachau in 1945…in the name of my mother, who was an Army Nurse in Europe….in the name of my son, who was in intelligence in this war…and for myself…shame on the lot of you.

We owe our modern Yiddishe existance to the American Armed Forces – and we should behave accordingly.

  4. Theyre only saying the plane wreckage was found to cover up.
The pilot is in no danger since he stole the plane and has since delivered it.Just like a hollywood story

  5. Saint (#8) – Your comment about the pilot having stolen the plane is nonsense; as of 11:00 this morning para-rescue units are still looking for him. Whoever he is, he is protecting you, has a family, and deserves some minimal respect.
