Jerusalem City Hall Promises To Name Eastern Jerusalem Streets

In its response to the Supreme Court on Wednesday, 12 Cheshvan, Jerusalem City Hall committed to naming all streets in the eastern capital by the end of 2012. There are many unnamed streets in the predominately Arab area of the capital at present.

The city also committed to number all homes in the same area by the end of 2013. Amazingly, over 44 years following the liberation of the city in the June 1967 Six Day War, the city has yet to take control of the area, which in the eyes of many is viewed as “occupied Arab East Jerusalem”.

During today’s court session filed by ACRI (Association for Civil Rights in Israel), the city had to address the lack of adequate postal service in the eastern capital.

The court decided a multi-agency committee composed of representatives of the Postal Authority, Ministry of Transportation and Jerusalem City Hall will be established to study and rectify the situation.
