Wednesday Morning News Briefs From Eretz Yisrael


23:20: A Kassam rocket landed in an open area of southern Israel. No reports of injuries or damage.

** Anat Kamm reports to N’vei Tirtza Prison today to begin serving a 4.5 year prison term.

** IDF personnel officials report that 450 chareidi soldiers joined Netzach Yehuda (Nachal Chareidi) in 2011. An additional 650 chareidim joined the IDF, serving in other programs/units.

** Indictments were handed down in and IDF military court against two PA residents of Halhoul for the erev Rosh Hashanah shooting attack of Asher and Yonatan Pamer HY”D.

11:05: IDF Homefront Command siren testing in the central area, including the communities of Even Yehuda, Odem, Arsouf, Beit Yehoshua, Bnei Dror, Bnei Tzion, Geulim, Hadassim, Herut, Taibeh, Tira, Yakum, Kfar Hess, Chof HaSharon Regional Council, N’vei Hadassah, Nir Eliyahu, Azriel, Ein Vered, Porat, Kochav Yair and other communities. 

** IDF soldiers taking part in counter-terrorism operations throughout Yehuda and Shomron apprehended nine suspects on Tuesday night.

** Former President Katsav will serve his sentence in the Torah Wing of Matityahu Prison and will be together with former Shas Minister Rabbi Shlomo Benizri.

** US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton phoned Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu demanding Israel release $100 million in tax funds to the PA, funds frozen by Israel following the PA’s acceptance into UNESCO.
