VIDEO: Fire in Haifa Leaves 16 Injured, 4 Seriously


A fire broke ripped through a four-story residential structure on Eben Givrol Street in Haifa, in the Carmel district, Monday morning. Firefighters responded at about 8:30 AM to find flames emanating from second story windows.

A number of persons, including a small girl, were trapped on the floor directly above the fire. They were rescued from the building, with some suffering burns and smoke inhalation.

Basel Ibrahim, a resident of Haifa, saw the flames from his nearby home, and he did not waste time, deciding to run in as he was aware there were children inside. He grabbed a number of children and carried them downstairs, handing them over to arriving firemen.

Basel, 23, explained that he entered despite the flames because he felt compelled to save the children, which he did.

Magen David Adom reports that its personnel treated 16 people, including four victims in serious condition with burns and smoke inhalation, including a mother and daughter. There were also 1 patient in moderate condition and 11 others listed as light. They were transported to the trauma unit of Rambam Hospital in Haifa as well as Bentzion Hospital in the city.
