Mendelson Seminar in Yerushalayim Receives its Occupancy Permit Despite Shas’ Objections

Despite objections from some members of the Shas party on the Jerusalem City Council, the Mendelson Seminar received its occupancy permit, Tofes 4, to begin the new school year. This was accomplished by Jerusalem Deputy Mayor (Yahadut Hatorah) Eliezer Ruchberger. The building in question is a part of the educational complex located within the Tamir Hall complex in the capital.

Shas officials delayed the issuing of the occupancy permit on the claim the school discriminates against sephardi girls, and therefore, should be prevented to occupying the building. The opponents also claim the building should be used by a Shas-affiliated institution.

According to a Kikar Shabbos News report, the permit was issued on Monday as a result of Ruchberger’s efforts, who is chairman of the Jerusalem Local Planning Board. Ruchberger and his staff visited the building in question, and the permit was issued for Seminar Darchei Rochel, which is a branch of the schools operated by Rav Yechiel Mendelson.

After Ruchberger signed the occupancy permit, it eliminated the last obstacle, permitting the school to begin the 5780 year.
