A survey published on Monday by the Israel Democracy Institute shows that the majority of the Israeli public opposes the anarchist anti-government protests.

Less than a quarter (23%) reported that they participated in a protest compared to 77% who report that they did not participate, and many of those participating in the protests are aged 55 or over.

A majority of the public (70%) supports allowing protests in front of ministers’ homes but a majority of 69% opposes the blocking of major highways and 57% opposes the blocking of any roads.

One of the survey questions addressed the subject of a possible civil war, chalilah, in Israel.
“Recently there have been estimates that Israel is on the brink of a civil war due to deep political disagreements between different parts of society. In your opinion, what are the chances that in the foreseeable future, a civil war will break out in Israel that will include violence between the various parties?”

Almost half (49%) of Israelis believe that the chances of a civil war breaking out are low or very low, but an almost identical proportion (45%) believe that the chances are very high or quite high.

  1. Perhaps it was naive to believe that Israel’s upper class (secular, Ashkenazi, oriented towards Euro-American culture, Socialist in origin) would control of what they perceived as “their medinah”. To them the whole idea of zionism was to get rid of “deplorables” such as religious Jews (whether they be “modern” or “hareidi”) or culturally backward Jews such as non-Ashkenazim, not to mention those with wrong ideologies such as supporters of capitalism and individual freedom (what a century ago would be called “liberals” but today would be called “reactionary conservatives”).

  2. never protest, all you see are wicket un g-dly people…..angry and misguided fools….not sure they are even Israeli’s…….

  3. Dear YWN, after a quick google search for the israel democracy institute and reading their articles, it is very clear that this so called israel democracy institute is bichlal not a bipartisan group as its name suggests, rather it is a website that makes the arguements of the leftsts without explaining the rightwing arguement.
THIS is the website who’s fake numbers you are quoting. there is no where near 23% participating in protests, there is a few hndred at most at even the “largest” protests. and there is no way that half the israeli population seriosly thinks there will be a civil war in near future, i live in isarel and no one actually thinks like that here except a few radicals maybe.
this so called israel democracy institute is simply trying to use a method of pursuading public opinion by creating apparent norms aka propaganda.
as a frum news site lets not fall for stupidity over hear…
i believe most political arguments boil down to two different reasonable opinions, but this so called israel democracy institute is not doing a bipartisan job of that at all.
frum yidden reading this site appreciate SVARA, not disguised propoganda

  4. This is a bogus story. Protests never involve a majority of any democratic population. But substantial majorities oppose the proposed judicial “reforms”.
