Two members of the Religious Zionist party, MKs Moshe Solomon and Ohad Tal, announced on Tuesday morning that they will vote against UTJ MK Yisrael Eichler’s daycare law, losing the coalition majority needed to pass it.

The bill, which bases daycare subsidies solely on the employment status of the mother, was scheduled to be brought for a preliminary vote in the Knesset on Wednesday. The bill was formulated by Eichler after Attorney-General Gali Baharav-Miara decided that providing daycare subsidies to the children of bnei yeshivos who are eligible for the draft is illegal.

Previously, Likud MKs Yuli Edelstein and Dan Illouz announced that they would not support the bill, It is also believed that Likud MK Eli Dalal and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant (Likud) will not support it. New Hope chairman Gideon Sa’ar also announced that his party of four will vote against the bill.

On Monday, the UTJ party held a meeting and sent a message to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that if the daycare law is not approved, they will refuse to vote with the coalition on other laws.

  1. רשעים ארורים nothing better to do on a day they are facing a serious threat from Iran – they will pay a bitter price for their Anti-Semitism – Harris YM”S will win and Israel will lose choliloh

  2. How can they withhold funds intended to help mothers into the workforce? Most schools in Israel end far too early in the day for a mother to hold a job and so these subsidies were made. How can anyone in his right mind withhold funds from young struggling families where mom goes out to work to help bridge the gap?

Yet again, just as the gedolim have said for a century, we see how the “Religious Zionists” are Zionists first and then, somewhere somehow, are “religious”.

  4. It is interesting that many so-called “right wing nationalists” in Israel perceive the Hareidim as a great threat than Hamas. They would rather turn control over the country to left wing, appeasement-oriented parties, if the alternative requires tolerating the Hareidi community.
