According to an interview appearing in a Kuwaiti newspaper, a “senior Syrian military official” states that “Syria is conducting talks with Israel with a finger on the trigger”.
Marking 35 years since the Yom Kippur War, the daily al-Watan reports on Monday that Syria is warning if Israel does not take genuine steps towards peace, and stop attacks against Palestinians in Yehuda, Shomron and Gaza, a new war will result in the region.
Unnamed officials quoted in the report state Syria is ready for every eventuality, and a first priority remains ensuring the return of Arab land and compliance with United Nations resolutions. “When the conditions demanded, Syria went to war in October (Yom Kippur War) and emerged victorious”.
The source continues that even today, Syria remain loyal to her principles. “When the Zionist enemy wishes to talk peace, Syria enters into talks but clings to her interests and rights and refuses to make the slightest concession.”
“Syria enters into talks with the Zionist enemy with a finger on the trigger – telling Israel Syria will not forsake what is coming and the return of land.”
