In Rare Break With Trump, Netanyahu Rejects Makeup Of Gaza Oversight Panel

In an unusual public rift with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sharply criticized the composition of a newly unveiled Gaza oversight body.

In a statement issued by the Prime Ministers Office, Israel said the White House announcement of the Gaza Board of Peaces executive committee was not coordinated with Israel and contradicts its policy.

According to the statement, the executive committee includes senior officials from Turkey and Qatar two countries that have been highly critical of Israels conduct during the war in Gaza.

While the broader Gaza Board of Peace is formally chaired by President Trump and comprised of international leaders, Israeli officials emphasized that the executive committee is expected to wield real authority, directly overseeing the postwar management of Gaza. This stands in contrast to the Board of Peace itself, which Israeli officials view as largely symbolic.

Netanyahus office said the prime minister instructed Foreign Minister Gideon Saar to formally convey Israels opposition to the executive committees makeup to his U.S. counterpart, Marco Rubio.

The move is particularly notable as Saar has largely been excluded from IsraelU.S. relations in recent months, with those ties instead being handled directly by Netanyahus office and his senior advisers.

  1. Netanyahu needs to get in line. Without the United States of America and President Donald Trump, Mr. Netanyahu, his government and his State is toast. He needs to have Derech Eretz to those that keep him, his government and his State afloat.

  2. It must be a red line. Qatar and Turkey have no only need critical of Israel during the war. Qatar literally built up Hamas for YEARS. Turkey has supported Hamas for YEARS. They cannot be part of the entities overseeing a transition to a suddenly “peaceful” Gaza.
