While police spend time arresting lomdei Torah and dealing with the resulting protests, serious crime continues to flourish in Israel, with a woman murdered on Ayalon Highway in Tel Aviv—one of Israel’s busiest highways—at the height of the morning rush hour on Thursday.

MDA medics and paramedics who were called to the scene were forced to pronounce the woman driving the vehicle dead. According to the reports, the woman, 35, was not known to the police.

Police said that the bombing was criminal in nature, and officers from the Ayalon District and Tel Aviv District bomb disposal experts launched an investigation into the explosion. It is still unclear whether it was an assassination or a “work accident.”

MDA motorcycle unit paramedics Neriya Hagbi and Orel Toledano said, “We received a report of a vehicle explosion. We arrived quickly and saw the vehicle engulfed in flames, and a person lying nearby without a pulse and not breathing, with burns on her body. We performed medical examinations, but the injury was very severe, and we were forced to pronounce her dead.”
