Hardline demonstrators in Iran are openly questioning whether Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei supports the regime’s ongoing negotiations with the United States, as internal opposition to a potential agreement appears to be intensifying.
According to Iran International, protesters gathered in Tehran on Shabbos carrying signs highlighting Khamenei’s public silence regarding the talks.
One placard read: “Imam Mojtaba Khamenei even issued a message about a plane tree for Nature Day. How come he has not said a single sentence about approving negotiations?”
The unusual criticism comes as U.S. and Iranian officials have indicated that a framework agreement could be finalized in the coming days.
Meanwhile, video released by media affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) showed another protest outside the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s representative office in Mashhad, where demonstrators chanted: “Death to Araghchi, the dishonorable compromiser and infiltrator.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who has led negotiations with the United States, has come under increasing fire from hardline factions that accuse him of making excessive concessions to Washington.
