Israeli officials and experts who have worked on the Iran issue for decades believe that the terms of the memorandum of understanding expected to be signed tomorrow “endanger Israel’s security interests,” Channel 12 reported, citing senior Israeli officials.
The officials say that the US has accepted Tehran’s “key demands,” and that “Iran is not agreeing to this for nothing.”
“The immediate result will be the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a lifeline for the Iranian regime, and a blow to the Iranian public,” the officials said.
Iran is effectively “paying on credit” according to the terms of the deal, the officials said.
“This is the same model as the agreement that ended the war in Gaza,” one official said. “Ask yourself what happened to the commitment to disarm Hamas. If, after 60 days of a ceasefire, Iran refuses to take the required steps, what meaningful leverage will the US still have? The credible military threat has largely disappeared.”
The officials also voiced concern that “uranium removal has become uranium dilution,” while Iran’s missile program is not addressed in the agreement at all.
“None of the objectives Israel set are being addressed immediately under this agreement,” the officials said. “Not only is Iran not being required to halt its support for regional proxies, but the agreement effectively allows it to reconnect with Hezbollah.”
