UPDATED – Jerusalem Arab Resident Stabbed in Meah Shearim

mishtn1.jpgUPDATE BELOW – Police first called it a criminal event but now are relating to the stabbing of an eastern Jerusalem Arab resident in Meah Shearim a nationalistically motivated attack.

The stabbing occurred earlier in the week, and police reported the incident was the result of an argument, perhaps over a business dispute but on Wednesday, investigators stated the incident was a hate crime. The victim was transported to Shaare Zedek Medical Center and he was reported in moderate condition on Wednesday night.

Not wishing to miss an opportunity, members of the political left, including Meretz, called on police to bring an end to the “right-wing fanaticism, both in Meah Shearim and Chevron,” calling on security officials to immediate implement the court-ordered eviction of Bet Shalom in Chevron.

The left during recent days has been exerting pressure towards a forced eviction in Chevron while Chevron leaders and Defense Ministry officials are working towards finding a mutually acceptable peaceful solution in the hope of avoiding bloodshed.

UPDATE: Police report on Thursday that two youths have been arrested, suspects in the Tuesday night stabbing attack of an eastern Jerusalem Arab resident in Meah Shearim. The suspect, who is listed in moderate condition in Shaare Zedek Medical Center, reported to police that four youths attacked him and stabbed him.

The suspects in custody are being remanded on Thursday.

  1. And these “attackers” are going to get harsher sentences from the wonderful Israeli judicial system for stabbing this dirtbag, then a palestinian murderer who kills and maims innocent jewish women and children, I hope Im wrong. They certainly wont be part of no prisioner exchange either. Oilem hofuch roisi.
