Shurat HaDin Opposes Appointment of Egyptian Anti-Semite Farook Husseini to Head UNESCO

Human rights organization Shurat ha Din (Israel Law Center) joins the growing protest against the decision of the Israeli prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, to withdraw his objection to the appointment of Egyptian Culture Minister, Farook Husseini, to head UNESCO. The organization says that it will petition the Israeli Supreme Court if Netanyahu fails to challenge this outrageous appointment.

In a letter sent to the prime minister’s office, the organization claims that Farook Husseini is a known anti-Semite, who has declared himself “enemy number one of normalization between Egypt and Israel”.  Since his appointment as culture minister in 1983 he has not ceased to revile Israel in the most vitriolic terms, and opposes allowing Israeli books into the national library in Alexandria.  He has gone so far as to call for the burning of all Israeli books,  and has stated that if he finds any Israeli books in the Alexandria library,  he will burn them himself.

Among his anti-Semitic ranting,  Husseini has stated that Israel has never contributed to any field of humanity,  and instead claims the achievements of others as its own.  He claims that Israeli culture is an inhuman culture, based on violence, racism, vanity, and that Israel’s sole aim is to steal what doesn’t belong to them in order to claim it later on.  According to Husseini, Israel is aided in this dark conspiracy by the international Jewish community, which has penetrated the world media in order to disseminate their “satanic” lies.

UNESCO is a United Nations organization founded in 1945 with the stated goal of promoting peace and security through international cooperation in the fields of education, science, and culture, and to promote the values of justice, rule of law, and respect for human rights as set forth in the UN charter.

Shurat haDin,  in its letter to the prime minister, argues that Husseini’s vicious, slanderous, and baldly racist statements make him unfit to serve as head of a respected organization like UNESCO,  whose stated purpose is to combat the very kind of racism that Husseini espouses.

The organization points out that until now Israeli has waged an aggressive campaign to prevent Husseini’s appointment,  and that the prime minister’s recent decision give in to Husseini’s appointment is a discredit to the Jewish people and the state of Israel,  and only serves to legitimize Husseini’s anti-Semitic rantings.   The organization threatens to turn to the Supreme Court if Netanyahu does not reverse this clearly wrong-headed decision.

  1. If anyone can stop it Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, head of Sherut HaDin is the one. The woman is a power horse. Go for it!

  2. Is anyone surprised? This is the typical behavior of the terrorist Islamic mentality. They cannot play nicely in the proverbial sandbox so they blow the sandbox to smithereens.
