Many Expected to Visit Kevarim of Yehoshua and Calev

kye.bmpThousands are expected to visit the Kevarim of Yehoshua ben Hun and Calev ben Yefune on Thursday night erev Parshas Shlach, when we recall the act of the meraglim, the spies who spoke loshon hora about Eretz Yisrael. Their Kevarim is located in the Arab village of Kifl Harris in Shomron, not far from the city of Ariel. As in past years, the event is arranged in concert with the IDF and visitors to the tzion are escorted by military personnel.

The parsha is also viewed as the first time we learn of davening at the kever of a tzaddik, as Rashi tells how Calev visited Kivrei Avos to daven, hoping the nation would not accept the report of the spies.

Entry to the village will be permitted from 11:00pm to 2:00am, under IDF protection. Those wishing to take part are instructed to meet at Ariel Junction, from where the shuttle service leaves. Parking accommodations exist for private vehicles at the Ariel Jct. facility.

The Yesod Olam organization is making arrangements as in past years, setting up to accommodate thousands who are expected to take advantage of the opportunity.

  1. How sad that to visit the kevarim of OUR tzaddikim, in OUR land, we have to arrange special times with armed escorts! How different things COULD have been and SHOULD have been, if after the 6 Day War the government had PROUDLY announced that we were annexing and RE-unifying the Shomron with the rest of Eretz Yisrael as HaSh-m intended it to be. Why WOULD the world accept our claim to these areas, when WE ourselves have not really done so!?!?

  2. It would be interesting to point out to everyone that, yes, in Eretz Yisroel it is indeed Parshas Shelach. Galus is behind by one week…

  3. Pardon my curiosity but how could Calev’s kever be in Shomron? It says specifically in Yehoshua and Shoftim that his portion was Chevron.
