Israel Warned Carter of Gaza Dangers

Israeli security sources reveal that Israel warned security agents protecting former President Jimmy Carter of the dangers of entering Hamas-controlled Gaza, including an attempted assignation on his life. Following the report that an attempted bombing attack against Carter’s convoy was prevented, IDF sources released the information the daily HaMevaser reports.

Israeli security officials add that they remained in constant touch with agents providing security for the former American president while he was in the region.

IDF officials confirm that after Carter’s vehicular convoy entered Gaza, terrorists’ movements were detected south of Erez. Terrorists were observed in the act of placing explosive devices in the area. It is theorized that the explosive(s) did not detonate due to a malfunction, perhaps saving Carter’s life the report continues.

It is believed that terrorists who have broken off from Hamas, aligning with the ideology of al-Qaeda, are responsible for the assassination attempt. The same organization is responsible for last January’s bombing attack against an IDF jeep near Kissufim, an attack that claimed the lives an army tracker and three other soldiers.

Hamas security officials in Gaza continue to deny that there was any attempted attack on the former president.
