Bill to Limit Tenure of Mossad Director

Following a recent cabinet decision to once again extend the tenure of Mossad Intelligence Agency director, a bill is being pushed forward to limit the tenure of the intelligence agency’s director. The private bill sponsored by Kadima MK Yaakov Edri seeks to place a cap of four years on the post.

Due to special circumstances, the government may extend the post for an additional year but the Knesset is empowered to curtail the director’s position as well.

Edri feels his bill will provide stability to the intelligence community, pointing out the last extension of Director Meir Dagan’s term led to the resignation of his second in command, who has been waiting to assume the leadership of the organization for a number of years.
