President Peres Remains Committed to Oslo Agreement

Visiting Israeli ambassadors on Monday made a stopover at the President’s Residence for a meeting with President Shimon Peres.

Mr. Peres, who earned a Nobel Peace Prize for his part in the Oslo Agreement of 1993, alluded to recent derogatory remarks released by Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who labeled the Oslo Agreement “an illusion”, that he believes the agreement was and remains good. The president, a former prime minister and foreign minister, continued to voice his disagreement with the current foreign minister’s policies, with Mr. Peres expressing his opposition to the current aggressive policy by which the Foreign Ministry responds aggressively to any and all criticism against Israel.

Regarded among the most respected and senior statesman in the international community today, Mr. Peres added that the problem is not one of public relations, but rather a problem of policy, and policy decisions cannot possibly be the best public relations – confident that if diplomatic talks between Israeli and her neighbors resume, this would by far be the best PR possible.
