Garbage Truck Fire In Monsey


fire - sifrei torah burnedOn Monday August 19, 2013 at about 5:50 am, the Ramapo Police responded to a garbage truck fire on Sparrow Ave in the Village of Chestnut Ridge.

Responding Officers located the truck parked on Sparrow Ave. with the back door open and fire burning in the rear area which was loaded with cardboard.

The driver, Clodoaldo Gumaraes who is employed by Interstate Waste Management, advised that he observed smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle while he was making pickups. He opened the rear doors and attempted to extinguish the flames but was unable to.

Monsey Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported and no damage to the vehicle was noted. Interstate Waste responded and cleared the scene to clean up the street. The fire appears to have started accidently at this time.
