  1. I was just using one of his seforim yesterday! He wrote a Aide to Talmudic Study, or some such name, which has some very useful charts in the back. I was teaching my son, who is just starting to learn Gemoro, boruch Hashem, how to understand the value of the coins in the Gemoro’s times and other times. So I pulled out this sefer to show him, and to look up what he says about purchasing power in those days.

Boruch Dayan Emes. A light has gone out of this world.

  2. 🙂 a humourous anecdote – the earliest editions were called Aids to Talmud Study until the word aids took on a certain connotation; newer ones are called Aiding Talmud Study.

Boruch Dayan Emes. Yehay zichro baruch. If he was Rav Dessler ZYA’s talmid, I take it he did have arichus yomim or am I figuring incorrectly?

  3. FYI – Rav Dessler was niftar suddenly at the age of 61 in 1953.
Rabbi Carmell met Rav Dessler in London in the early 1930’s when he was around 15 years old. He learnt by him for a number of years in London and Gateshead. He was one of the editors (along with Rabbi Chaim Freidlander) of the 5 volume classic Michtav M’Eliyohu – a compilation of Rav Dessler’s writings and Shmuessen. He translated parts of it to English as well, called “Strive For The Truth”.
He was close to 90 years old. Baruch Dayan Emes.
