Israel: Thousands attend Tznius Asifa

tznius.jpgThousands attended the Tznius Asifa held on Motzei Shabbos. The event took place in the Ramat Tamir Hall in Yerushalayim. Maran R’ Elyashiv Shlita, R’ A.L. Steinman Shlita, R’ Nosson Tzvi Finkle Shlita R’ Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz Shlita and many other Gedolim and Rabbonim were in attendance. The Asifa was intended for Yungerleit only – women were not allowed at the event, and even unmarried men were asked to leave.

A number of basic regulations were read with regards to Tznius. Shirts, skirts, sweaters should be loose enough that the form of the body is not seen. The clothing should not be transparent, and a lining or additional shirt should be worn under any transparent fabric.

“Shirts should be at least 10 centimeters longer than the edge of the waistline on the skirt, in such a way that they would cover the skin in any movement. The collar should be appropriately closed. Sleeves should cover the elbows at any movement. Any fabrics that cling to the body are Asur.”

“Skirts should begin at the waist and end at the middle of the leg, and as mentioned, should be loose and not of clinging fabric.

“Shaitels, must not be too long or in models that have been Asurred.”

  1. The Chazon Ish once said, “Jews have a lot of problems today. 613 to be precise.” Those who want to dress tznius will and those who want to pretend to dress tznius will.

  2. I think that this Asifa is great, especially since it get the husbands aware and involved in this important issue. If the Chazon Ish would be alive today, he would cringe from these disgustingly tight clothes and exposed midriff styles, and would encourage all to attend as many assifos as possible on tznius. Tznius is a big problem in our day and age, those who want to dress tznius sometimes need guidance on what is appropriate to wear, it gets very confusing, especially when you see so called frum people going around in short skirts and skin tight tops!

  3. It will be interesting to see the Brooklyn Rabbonim as they try and address this issue while protecting their positions.
There is a desperate need for people to take this seriously. How do parents educate their daughters when they point to Mizrach Vant yidden and say “well they let their wife or daughter wear it”.
My not acting to condemn this travesty these Rabbonim are in a sense condoning it…

  4. nu? “preaching to the converted” again?! The people who really need to hear this never show up at these asifas! This cycle of making chumros halacha lemaisa and creating further division from the rest of the (more troubled) klal has gotten us nowhere.

We need hadracha in building bridges over which the rest of klal Yisroel can travel toward us. And we need more inspiring so that our women don’t feel the need to run around in short skirts and tight tops for a thrill.

  5. Would you have the same reaction if the “chumros” related to Kashrus or Shmiras Shabbos. This is as critical an area as there is. Lets tell it the way it is.
    1. Many husbands like their wives dress and encourage it
    2. Women are obsessed with diet and excercise beyond the
    need for a healthy body.
    3. The secular world with its emphasis on the physical,
plays a large role in our lives.
    4. Rabbonim are afraid to take action
We need some serious foundation work prior to building bridges.

  6. go! ezras nashim! You are one hundred percent correct!
fmlogic123- we are in no place to judge our gedolim as being afraid to take action…nor are we in place to be their advisors…

  7. EzrasNashim, I think you got it wrong.

I was in Yerushalaim a few weeks ago, for an extended period of time.
The way the frum girls dress in the street there was a real shock to me. For some reason, the problem there is 100x worse than it is here in the states (at least from what I’ve seen). I remarked on this to a few people when I was there and they agreed with me. It took me completely by suprise.

  8. shtender…noone is denying that there is a problem…however genrally at these type of events those that have tznius issues don’t show….very few pp don’t realize that they arent dressing up to par..(tznius wise)…it is true that the some israelis tend to dress A LOT more provacative but chances are none of their family members showed at this event
