  1. Poor Elie, although it shouldn’t happen to anyone it is a reminder that hand and eyes of HaShem are always watching. The Holocaust representative is somewhat lax in giving tzedakah. There is no business like Shoah business. Has he contributed to your organization ?

  2. katchkah,

I don’t agree with your reaction. It is not our task to determine why a fellow Jew experienced a difficulty.

Our responsibility here is to support a fellow Jew in his distress.

  3. Sarah, I hear you and agree with you. However, isn’t it the responsibility of our fellow Jew to support the community ? – especially for one who B”H survived the Holocaust, and makes a good living from it, shouldn’t he be especially grateful to HaShem and the greater community and show his appreciation? I ask again, does he contribute to your/any organization? Does he even give your organization a ‘special rate’ for speaking ? Do you have any idea what he charges for a speech ?

  4. What is the purpose of all this loshon hara? Why are we judging Mr. Wiesel’s charitableness (is that a word…?)? What point are you trying to make, katchkah?

  5. KATCHKA — Your comments are a little shocking. Also, they are nuts (just my opinion). This is what happens when people can post things anonymously.

I reread them twice just to make sure that you did indeed accuse Elie Wiesel of profiting off of the Holocaust and not adequately giving back to the community. Mr. Wiesel has done as much for holocaust awareness as anyone I can think of, and your accusation that he is not a Ba’al Tzedakah is bizarre. Do you have any evidence one way or the other? I don’t. Therefore I keep my mouth shut. An interesting concept.

Finally, to state with G-dlike all-knowingness that his beating was some sort of punishment for his “misdeeds,” is even bizzarier than your other accusation. Do you say the same thing when a Tzadik falls painfully ill? Unless you are actually G-d posting under a cute screen name, you probably are not qualified to make any part of your comments.

If you are indeed G-d, I take everything back and remind you that the last time the Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup was in 1967. I’m just saying.
