I wish I were making this up.

Last night (Tuesday, that is) – Tareq and Michaele Salahi attended the State Dinner thrown in honor of the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Two people who were not on the official guest list attended, a pair of Virginia Socialites.

The Secret Service was asked about this breach after a media inquiry asked about the Salahi’s online boasts on Facebook. They posted some nice photos of themselves at the dinner, with dignitaries include a smiling VP Joe Biden.

They could face charges of trespassing and lying to the secret service.

Her facebook entry: I was honored to be invited to attend the First State Dinner hosted by President Obama & the First Lady to honor India. In June 2010, the America’s Polo Cup will be between INDIA & the UNITED STATES. Please join me in this cultural celebration of politics, diplomacy, fashion, sports, entertainment & family fun.

There is clearly more to the story that we don’t know, a couple can’t just hop right into the white house.

I think the lack of security was due to the man presently residing there.

Do you believe the lack of security is his choice? or perhaps the nefarious doings of someone or something else?

What would make the couple try this in the first place. I would presume that I wouldn’t get in, and I wouldn’t even try.

According to a former secret service agent, since homeland security has taken over the secret service their quality has gone down.

The story is even stranger, the man, Tareq Salahi is a prominent Palestinian lobbyist, and board member of American Task Force on Palestine (although they have edited him out of their website since this party crashing story broke). The ATFP is an organization that promotes Palestinian issues and is active in the discussion of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

The group was formerly called American Committee on Jerusalem and was headed by Rashid Khalidi. Obama and Khalidi are friends, having eaten at each others’ homes often.

This information comes from an article “White House party crasher ties to radicalism and Obama knows him” in the Hartford Conservative Examiner.

I had the honor of being a guest on the White House in June, 1977, to help greet the President of Venezuela, Manuel Perez, and his wife. I was not invited into the house, but was one of those people on the lawn, waving flags and holding babies, etc., to help President and Mrs. Carter make the Perez’s feel welcome. Venezuela is an oil-producing (OPEC) nation, and we really needed to make them feel very welcome.

I know that the Secret Service does not usually fool around in these matters. In fact, it was a rainy day, and I left a fold-up umbrella on the grounds. Despite numerous calls to the White House, I never saw that umbrella again. I presumed it had been X-rayed, inspected and detonated, just in case.

I was invited and vetted because I was working for the government as an intern that summer, and had already had security clearances, etc. I’m not sure how real the security was, but the Secret Service certainly put on a good show to make us feel the President was safe.

Rule number two when crashing an event:

You must know at least some of guests / hosts.

Rule number three when crashing an event:

    Know when to leave.

Rule number 4: Don’t brag about it and post photos of it on your Facebook page the next day.

In the good old days, pre-2003, The Secret Service was part of the Treasury Department.

come to think of it the story does seem a bit fishy!! even the couples last name , maybe secret service wants the president murdered.?

    I would hope not.

If the president is hurt, the people who look the worst, whether their fault or not, are always the Secret Service.

There is a story of presidential protection that I heard in Washington. I have no idea if it is true.

In the early 60’s, the French equivalent of the Secret Service sent a delegation to Washington, DC, to see the storied American Secret Service in action, protecting President Kennedy.

The French returned to France chuckling, since they found they had little to learn from the Americans.

As for their respective protectees, Charles de Gaulle died in his own bed.

Well now there are two ways to meet with Obama:

First, Crash his dinner party by telling the secret service that you left the invitation in the car and you’re Obama’s cousins.

Second, get into a racial fight with a Harvard Professor and then drink a beer with Obama.

    Who wants to go first?
