☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant
Moshe Rabbeinu came down from Har Sinai with the luchos
And the B’nei Yisroel sang “Sushi Orim Rosheichem”.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIf that’s true, why aren’t the pro-banning peanuts demanding banning sports also?!?
Because the risk/reward equation is completely different.
June 26, 2017 12:43 pm at 12:43 pm in reply to: Just testing the various “allowed markup”s ☑️❎🆙 #1303971☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYes, I like it.
June 26, 2017 12:43 pm at 12:43 pm in reply to: PSA: How to post links without blocking the post below yours 📢 #1303973☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt’s simpler to just put

tags around the URLs.☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMy grandmother eats sushi. Does that mean I’m allowed to eat it?
That probably depends if she’s your maternal or paternal grandmother.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantnice to hear after mentioning a couple that have worked successfully in other schools.
If someone plays Russian roulette and survives, is that success? (since the thread is already chock full o’ overblown analogies, I might as well add one more)
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou unfairly belittle the opinion of those you disagree with when you call such a policy decision an uneducated trendy, feel good one.
Are you agreeing that there should be a peanut ban when there is an actual child?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMy opinion on this was formed after hearing a similar story from a parent.
There’s no reason for a school to wait for such stories to ban peanuts; they should be proactive.
Far from illustrating that there are other equally safe options, if anything it illustrates that the other options are not as safe.
Hashem sends special malochim to watch over children, but that doesn’t mean we don’t need to do our part.

☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe first Kol Salonika.

☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantUnfortunately, chinuch is not a parnassah.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt’s been going on the whole thread.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantChareidim can always book an empty seat next to them (and pay the cost) or take another flight.
You know very well that nobody will buy two seats (there is no guarantee they would be consecutive anyhow). There’s no guarantee that the next flight will be any better, and people have schedules they need to keep.
I think El Al will figure out a way to satisfy their customers.
June 23, 2017 7:59 pm at 7:59 pm in reply to: Weekly Nominations for least understood sentence in YWN #1303223☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSorry, but a grammatical error does not incomprehensible make.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHe should have arranged his seat previously
From what I understand, to this point, El Al, to this point, will not assign seats based on who else will be in the row. Many people don’t use travel agents.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI don’t assume that; perhaps the Israeli law only applies to an Israeli company?
Maybe El Al (and other airlines, if it applies to them) will take special seating requests in advance, similar to kosher or mehadrin meals.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIf it didn’t, I would definitely not want to inconvenience parents and kids for no reason.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAnd here’s a newsflash – many times ( it may even be most) the peanut emergency is NOT because of a missing ban but rather an ignorant, uninformed, poorly trained or irresponsible adult.
So? If a ban minimizes the risk, why does it matter if the risk is that someone will make a mistake? We’re dealing with humans, and humans make mistakes.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantits very funny that you see a connection there. A parent working out his son’s eating issues in his home is a raya that his son can go without peanut foods at school. Sure, makes sense.
The allergic kids eat in school too.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNot trying to be funny.
You said the parents would work it out. They would also work it out, I believe, if sending peanut to school wasn’t an option.
V’ho raya, the allergic kids eat.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhat if that child became allergic to peanuts?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou’re welcome.
June 22, 2017 10:34 am at 10:34 am in reply to: Dealing with the refrigerator light on Shabbos #1302366☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI would’ve gone there to replace it, but they’re closed on Shabbos.
June 22, 2017 10:18 am at 10:18 am in reply to: Dealing with the refrigerator light on Shabbos #1302338☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI tried sugar, but one of my kids knocked it off, and it was the last bag.
June 22, 2017 10:11 am at 10:11 am in reply to: Dealing with the refrigerator light on Shabbos #1302319☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWe just take out the bulb and leave it out forever.
Why don’t you get the bulb with the built-in 7 day timer?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantGeordie, I have no problem if you consider it a classic, and your definition, finding many of the songs inspiring, is a good one. I’m just wondering if a wide audience will be inspired by very different types of songs.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSevere milk allergies are fairly common and pretty much never accommodated.
They are far less likely to be fatal.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantGolfer, I haven’t even brought up Yossele Rosenblatt yet.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNo, because peanut butter is not a crime.
Exposing a severely allergic child to it certainly is.
Schools don’t accommodate anything but peanut allergies.
As mentioned, peanut allergies are more common, and more dangerous than others.
Why should peanut allergies be allowed to inconvenience everyone else?
So that the allergic child can attend yeshiva without risk of dying.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIf you’re willing to expel people for bringing peanuts, why not just be proactive and insist that children with peanut allergies go to special schools?
You want to punish the innocent and let the guilty go scot free.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThose are normally not potentially fatal.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMBD’s Double Album – Tops!
I hear that.
I think the newest Avraham Fried, Bring the House Down will prove to be a classic. There is a great mix there, something everyone can enjoy.
I’m not that familiar with it, but I would think a mix of such varied styles might make for a wide audience, but it wouldn’t be a “classic” for many individuals.
June 21, 2017 1:03 am at 1:03 am in reply to: Rumor about Ivanka Trump Spurs conversation about Geirus #1301185☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMy point was that if a convert joins the MO — and follows what many women do — she shouldnt be disqualified as a convert.
I don’t understand that argument (you’re not the first in the thread to make it). If a segment of Modern Orthodoxy doesn’t follow halacha, and a potential giyores only accepts to be like that segment, she hasn’t actually accepted ol mitzvos.
Unless your argument is that because some people who are considered Orthodox don’t keep certain halachos, she assumes that those are not really halachos.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAlso, Vahaviosim. I would find it hard to argue that it’s not the greatest. Neck and neck with D’veykus III.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOh, and how can I forget about the first Toronto Pirchei record? Put that towards the top of my list.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOthers that come to mind: some early Avraham Fried (Goodbye Golus is, to me, a very underrated album, although perhaps underrated albums deserve their own thread), and the first New York School of Jewish Song record. Oh, and a couple of London School of Jewish Song albums – The London School of Jewish Song with Neginah, and Borchi Nafshi.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMy personal favorites are MBD’s Just One Shabbos, Judaea – World To Come, which was early Yerachmiel Begun work, and Shwekey’s Kolot is certainly the best recording from the past 15 years in terms of song quality, and arrangements.
Just One Shabbos is an all time classic. I think for a while, it was the all time best seller.
Judaea was a very different, unique album at the time. I can understand how it would be on someone’s list.
I’m not familiar with Kolot. I doubt it would be my style, although maybe I’ll try to give it a listen.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe first Aish album, Journeys 3, and Dveykus 2 also rank as favorites.
All good choices, although I would pick Journeys 1 sooner.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantA lot of albums have one or two great songs and a bunch of filler.
I wouldn’t consider that an all time classic album. I think an all time classic would have more than two great songs – I would say at least three, and the rest would have to be good.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI agree about D’veykus 4. Great songs and vocals, but sampled music (except for one or two saxophone solos).
All of those are good choices, particularly the last three you mentioned. (Tzlil V’zemer is nice, but the others are more “all time classics” to me.)
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBig if.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant6. Yes
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMisplaced by Moshav Band.
I’ve never heard it.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSameach by Mendy Wald
Nice album. There are at least a couple of classic songs on it.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI don’t think we can apply “stam keilim einom b’nei yoman” in a restaurant or catering establishment, where the keilim are used daily for treif food.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantER private school students on average are receiving 2000 dollars in benefits per student. This includes money going toward busing, special ed., Title 1,2 ,3 etc..
What do ER public school students get on average?
June 20, 2017 2:20 pm at 2:20 pm in reply to: Rumor about Ivanka Trump Spurs conversation about Geirus #1300387☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI’d say that 90% of married women in my shul DO cover their hair.
Is your shul representative of all of Modern Orthodoxy?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHe said even hot food. (I have no idea how prevalent it is.)
