lol streetgeek, that’s terrific.
Usually, you can win the road rage argument much better by laughing at them.
December 2, 2013 2:48 pm at 2:48 pm in reply to: You're Celebrating Your First Chanukah As A Married Person #990590popa_bar_abbaParticipantIn emunas yisroel, we would never use apostrophes. We don’t need to make everything so short.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI did the switch!
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI was a 49 year old living in my mothers half of my grandmothers basement. My rock band was just taking off and we had just booked our first big hit. Since then, we are still just booked our first big hit next month.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantOn way to daven at ashkenazi. At some time.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantavada the new one. for chelek aleph.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantYou may be weird as a loon in real life, but I’m just seeing you here on the CR, and I think you’re better than normal: smart, funny, perceptive, empathetic.
I’m sorry it’s hard on the outside. Maybe tell us who is being a jerk and we’ll all come beat him up.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantUsed the Amex card at Zundel Berman’s. Bought: Tzitzis and shemiras shabbos k’hilchosoh.

popa_bar_abbaParticipantSam: I take that gemara to mean that there is no guarantee of schar mitzva in this world.
Because what is the other choice–that ??? ???? ???? ???? ???? means that nothing in this world happens because we do mitzvos or aveiros? Does that comport with the rest of chazal and the Torah?
??? ??????? ????
???? ?? ????
??? ?? ?????? ?? ?????? ???? ???? ?? ?
And the myriad times in chazal that it says that someone was punished for something or rewarded for something. For example Dovid Hamelech in the daf a couple days ago (for those on the REAL daf schedule).
I don’t think anybody understands that there is the entire corpus of shas on one side, and it is a machlokes with that gemara!
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI was on the lookout for CR people at Emunas yisroel, but couldn’t identify any as obvious.
I was sitting in the second to last row, all the way on the right, btw. And perhaps catching up on daf yomi.
Good idea. I heard you were far behind
So, where should I go on motzei shabbos?

popa_bar_abbaParticipantThe non-apikorsim club welcomes DY. You too can join! Just be modeh that things that happen in this world are done by Hashem for a reason and those include schar v’onesh. Like the Torah says!

November 29, 2013 12:59 am at 12:59 am in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989956popa_bar_abbaParticipantThe question makes no sense. It is fair to have a government,a nd it is fair that the government will be composed of people, and people will sometimes make stupid decisions. That doesn’t retroactively make the whole notion of government unfair.
The fact that a specific policy is unwise is not a condemnation of the governments right to govern
popa_bar_abbaParticipantNext time you meet your wife try this for kicks. “You’re my wife… (sigh) isn’t that precious”
popa_bar_abbaParticipantKkls45: Not so, that is apikorsus
popa_bar_abbaParticipantCertainly not pink!
November 28, 2013 2:42 am at 2:42 am in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989929popa_bar_abbaParticipantThe question doesn’t make sense to me.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantGood question.
Because it will all just fall apart if you eat it right away, and will be too hot to eat anyway. The pro-tip is to wait 5 minutes for it to settle a little, then lift it out with a spatula on to a cooling rack, then cool until ready to eat on that.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantGee, you’ll really feel good about yourself if a couple of kids die in a fire you start breaking the rules. Won’t that be a hooooooooooooooooooot.
Just imagine how much fun it will be taking off seder to go to levaya’s and shiva houses and shloshim’s etc. But you should balance that against the fact that you’ll probably sign up to learn mishnayos for them.
This isn’t funny.
November 27, 2013 7:45 pm at 7:45 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989921popa_bar_abbaParticipantBecause I know more about one than the other. Why else?
popa_bar_abbaParticipantAlso, I’ve started using butter in the dough instead of olive oil.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantIt would work very well. Also, make in your toaster oven. It doesn’t take too long.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantWhere the hanhalla tells you to.
And you move out of the dorm for chanuka, because it’s dangerous to light so many candles in the yeshiva

November 27, 2013 7:27 pm at 7:27 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989919popa_bar_abbaParticipantThe government of NYC decided to ban soft drinks larger than 16oz because of the danger to the society’s health. Based only on your words, you should think this is fair.
It isn’t a good question.
I think it is fair for NY to ban that if they think it is dangerous to society. I also think it is a stupid policy. Unlike marijuana where I don’t know if it is a stupid policy.
November 27, 2013 7:06 pm at 7:06 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989916popa_bar_abbaParticipantSo you would be ok with me bringing up random laws you might or might not agree with to prove nothing to you?
November 27, 2013 6:54 pm at 6:54 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989914popa_bar_abbaParticipantOn what basis are you claiming that cannabis is a danger to society? The scientific community certainly does not agree with that claim.
I’m not claiming it; the government is. I have the slightest clue.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantWell don’t eat pink. Pink rhymes with stink, because it does stink. It also rhymes with sink, because it belongs in the sink. It also rhymes with mink because a mink eats pink.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantSo just ingest it through your nose. Problem solved
popa_bar_abbaParticipantWell, the red is a good fish to eat. But the pink is a bad fish to eat. Don’t eat pink. Eat red. Or tuna fish.
November 27, 2013 6:23 pm at 6:23 pm in reply to: Looking for a good nutritionist in Brooklyn #989597popa_bar_abbaParticipantI would like, please, a troll recommended by a whole bunch of nutritionists.

Didn’t think so.
November 27, 2013 5:42 pm at 5:42 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989907popa_bar_abbaParticipantActually, it is usually liberals who smoke marijuana, and they claim to like government. As usual, what they really mean is they like when other people are governed
November 27, 2013 5:35 pm at 5:35 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989905popa_bar_abbaParticipantNo. The solution is far more dangerous than the problem.
If I would have to ban possible dangers, I would also have to ban all rope (for a reason I mentioned earlier), knives, heavy objects, glue (drug), and many other ordinary useful things.
Ok, now we’re discussing the wisdom of the rule. Before you were just being libertarian and saying you want to be able to do whatever you want on your own land
November 27, 2013 5:12 pm at 5:12 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989901popa_bar_abbaParticipantHmm. Well, I disagree with you. I think it is eminently fair that the govt should prevent substances from being grown if they think they are dangerous to society.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI was not sworn at by first name, because that would not be tznius, particularly since I was sworn at by a woman.
November 27, 2013 5:00 pm at 5:00 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989899popa_bar_abbaParticipantBy right you mean fair and moral?
Law is a prediction of how the courts will rule, and the best prediction of how the courts will rule is that the feds can outlaw it if they want.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantWe miss Health.
November 27, 2013 4:45 pm at 4:45 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989897popa_bar_abbaParticipantLet people grow whatever crop they see fit on the property which they pay tax.
No, Wickard v. Filburn says the feds can stop you from growing wheat for your animals because then you won’t buy wheat and then there will be more wheat on the interstate market.
November 27, 2013 4:17 pm at 4:17 pm in reply to: Yated article about barely making it financially #991834popa_bar_abbaParticipantyah, but in 1880 we didn’t have a very well developed first amendment jurisprudence
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI got sworn at today. But not by name because there were too many people.
What has that to do with this thread?
November 27, 2013 3:42 pm at 3:42 pm in reply to: Yated article about barely making it financially #991832popa_bar_abbaParticipantOr really the blaine amendmetns should be struck down in federal court because they were passed as a form of religious discrimination by protestants against catholics
November 27, 2013 3:56 am at 3:56 am in reply to: Yated article about barely making it financially #991828popa_bar_abbaParticipantbecause then the non-frum people will bear their portion of the whole burden, instead of making us share their burden but not sharing ours.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantOnce upon a time, there was a cleaning lady who died, and then she came back from the dead, and haunted all the old houses she had cleaned, and sometimes made funny things creak, and sometimes jumped out of closets with a chainsaw.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI got sworn at today. But not by name because there were too many people.
November 26, 2013 10:15 pm at 10:15 pm in reply to: Yated article about barely making it financially #991821popa_bar_abbaParticipantVeltz, I disagree with your math. Right now, we are anyway paying for the public schools with our property taxes. So sure, in districts with high percentages of frum people the property taxes would go up, but I don’t think it would go up as much as we would save.
I’m not aware that property taxes are much lower in Flatbush than in similar brooklyn neighborhoods with less frum people.
