Sam2, that’s what I see from where I come from. I understand were human beings and davka because that we shouldn’t have pictures of women online. Maybe you will get happy to see the smiling kallah and chassan, but that picture may excite others in a different way.
Plus a kallah belongs to her chosson. I don’t know…it’s just not good to posting pictures online at all in my opinion.

But some things are important and people focus on them to make sure their kids aren’t exposed to specific big things.
June 1, 2016 7:56 am at 7:56 am in reply to: How to regulate who your children are friends with #1153611Shopping613 🌠ParticipantIt’s not that “they aren’t frum enough for me” it’s that they are on a different spiritual level. And there’s going to be people also on a higher spiritual level than me and not just lower.
As long as we aren’t egotistical saying “you aren’t good enough” but rather saying “I’m trying to grow, I’m not perfect, and here are some of the ways we are growing and some of thw things we do not do or speak of in our house”
I do not think I will lock my kids away from TV, internet, and other such ideas. That is a disaster in the making for if not exposed at all when a child is an adult and IS exposed he/she will not have the tools to deal with any of these new ideas out there.
There are A LOT of issues with the school system. They are doing a lot of things wrong (and doing a lot right, but still…) and it shows when I see people getting thrown out because they weren’t wearing tights but the kid who explicitly told classmates that she watched an inappropriate movie with her mother, (with the details of the movie – a movie no kid should ever hear of from a friend) is still in school-we have a problem.

Sam2, why don’t you go to the actual engagments and weddings themselves? Do you really feel such long term simcha after seeing a picture of someone you don’t know all too well? We need to get things back in our hearts. Just by hearing about the simcha you should feel happy! Why do you have to see a picture?
And if you are close enough to the person you will go or be sent a picture privately. I will definetly be sending a few pictures through email to certain people who could not come telling them to delete it or not forward it to anyone afterwards.
I do beleive it is not proper but it’s not an aveirah. I think it goes against all we know. We are celebrating 2 souls getting together and you want to plaster pictures up of their bodies? And seeing that will give your true simcha?
Phil: It all has to do with sensitivity. Even if the TV is off, what do they talk about? What do the kids talk about? What shows up when they play “house” or “pretend”? What new ideas will your kids come home knowing. I don”tunderstand how anyone could be 100 spiritualy oriented with a TV. Everything on there is shmutz. Perhaps we have a different outlook here in ISRAEL, but a TV is just not acceptable.
The only time I would be okay with it if someone has it because they grew up that way, or are having a hard time spiritually but are working hard to grow spiritually so one day they can throw it out.
Of course there are people less frum by having a TV, and the rest of lives show they cut corners too such as not wearing socks, wearings hair out etc. Obviously I cannot tell such people it is wrong since it’s not my place and I’m sure they are doing their best.
But for a frum erliche yid, a TV is not something we should have or look at. Period.

Besides for with it you can access any black market in the world, purchasing drugs, drinks, and so on-you can see bad things thatyou can never forget. Rehab can help people with addictions and put it behind them but there are some things you never forget and can replay in your mind.

Forget the part about how it’s not too utzniyusdic for anyone to share their entire life with the world. And it all has no purpose and a waste of time.
Just like women don’t speak in front of crowds of men, putting your picture online in basically putting a one dimensional part of yourself up for all men to see.
On the other hand, living in not condemned in the frum community. It is not my fault if I am shopping and there are a bunch of men staring at me. Though it would be a problem if I just stood there in front of a shul while everyone came out and there were no other women around.
I do not endorse burkas and other such clothing.I just think it’s a bit like showing off. “Here everyone! This is what I look like! I will let every man in the world be able to see picture of me and my life and he can download them, stare at them, or stalk me as much as he pleases!”
You put pictures of women online, why? Give me a reason that it should be okay

kollelman: It’s not just about middos. Some need a filter to keep them in check. What other idea do you propose we do? I need internet, but it’s hard to keep myself from going places I shoudln’t so I have a filter.

K9 is the best free filter and has almost no loopholes. Many people use it for their children. Some people don’t want k9 since if it’s free, how good can it be, right?
Mrs. L., Do you know which office he went to or what exactly went on there? You may not know the complete picture. Please don’t bash TAG. Many of their services are free and they are wonderful people. I think this entire thread is loshon hora as many people have clearly stated TAG does not charge and so on.

May 29, 2016 11:48 pm at 11:48 pm in reply to: Why the lack of Tznius on Internet Simcha sites?! #1153681Shopping613 🌠Participantzahavasdad- I do hear your point as I have younger sisters and they do come home telling me of such things, and they have begun to wonder what is halacha, chumra, etc.
It’s a fine line. But I didn’t think there would be any kids here. I assumed most people are adults here whom can reason and understand each to his own like my classmates.
Unfortunately the idea you described goes on in almost every bais yaakov these days.
May 29, 2016 11:44 pm at 11:44 pm in reply to: Why the lack of Tznius on Internet Simcha sites?! #1153680Shopping613 🌠Participantzahavasdad- as a teenage girl I think I know what things should be said to impressinable girls my age. So we should keep no chumras because it might make other people question the Torah?
Most people are aware from their late teens that every is on their own level. I really do think its untziyusdik. I dont understand why you need a picture on the web. To prove you are alive? There is a halacha that a man can’t have enjoyment from even the pinkie nail of a woman and you will put a full body picture of yourself up for all to stare at? Even if one is not looking for hana’a, they may happen to find it.
I think teachers and such other people should say “In my house, or in the school we do ____” and then continue explaing the reason. People only get frustrated about it all if no one will explain it to them.
It’s like going the extra mile, but no one will tell you what reward you get out of it, so why would you do it.
All in all it’s a fine line and this thread wasn’t made to talk about it.
DaasYochid is right, but then again is never says explicitly in the kitzur women must wear socks, yet it is hinted and rabanim have proved it time and time again and girls in many places around the world still call it a “chumra”. The is a question even what each pwerson considers a chumra and halacha.
Of course putting pictures on the web is technically permitted but it’s setting yourself up for a waste of time, and a big possibility or causing aveiros. Plus it’s quoted many times in many seferim that a woman should be private, stay in the house, etc. I’m sure if the internet was around back then those sefarim would never have permitted such usage of it for a waste of time of showing off yourself on social media.
May 29, 2016 7:07 pm at 7:07 pm in reply to: Why the lack of Tznius on Internet Simcha sites?! #1153677Shopping613 🌠ParticipantZahavasdad- I shoud of added in my personal opinion. Everyone has different standards. The idea is don’t complain about your standards not being kept if you do zero hishtadlus on your part to keep them.
May 28, 2016 6:33 pm at 6:33 pm in reply to: Why the lack of Tznius on Internet Simcha sites?! #1153674Shopping613 🌠Participantzahavasdad- I get that. I really do, but….
We must hold ourselves to certain standards. If you REALLY DO care about not having your picture on the internet and want to hold to certain standards you WILL do some sort of hishtadlus on your end so it won’t happen.
You’ll find a photographer who doesn’t use your picture for commercial purposes, you will let your friend know she may put AS many pictures of HER up online but you do not want any pictures of you online.
Would you let your kids play with _____ who you know shows your kids or brings them to places you don’t want them going?! NO! You would perhaps let them play in your own home where you may watch them but you care enough to make bounderies.
Its untzinuyusdic for any picture of a woman to be online. Do you care enough to do something on your part for your own ruchniyus standards? That is the real question here.
People aren’t hard hearted creatures. If you let them know they may share their joy with words on social media versus pictures or maybe even a picture of the cake with their names on it or a sign with their names on it they will do it because they understand that this is someone you would like. After all, it’s your l’chaim.
I’d put up a sign by mine letting everyone know. Because I care enough about my tzniyus to not let other people loosen my standards.
May 27, 2016 3:27 pm at 3:27 pm in reply to: Why the lack of Tznius on Internet Simcha sites?! #1153668Shopping613 🌠ParticipantWhy would someone want a picture of them to be on the web at all? I don’t understand the whole idea. What are you trying to show off and to whom? Why should everyone see what you look like? It’s just a guf.
Secular society influences us too much.
I actually believe the couples holding hands SHOULD be on those simcha sites. If there are not shomer negiah than obviously posting on their social media is probably a daily occurrence. While the pictures of so called “frummer” couples wouldn’t be on the web in the first place if they are so “frum”.
I uderstand pictures may get up there by other people but why is that happening? Make sure to tell everyone before that there are no pictures being posted online. Perhaps put up a sign outside the girls house that everyone can see while they walk in for the l’chaim. If you really care about something you’ll put up some sort of barrier.
Also, it’s illegal to put pictures up of someone that were taken in a private area (your own house) when there are signs or you have verbally told the people there not to do so.
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantShlumpy Shlon I’m sorry people aren’t giving you such a honest answer. We get too many trolls around here for people to think you are serious. And esspecially for us old timers such a question sounds almost silly as we all know we have the most AMAZING MODS EVER!!!!!!!!!!
They make sure there is no personal information, loshon hara, or anything else being shared. Every post goes through them. I’m sure they also got hakamos from rabanim when they opened the place. In any case it’s pretty kosher and impossible to personally contact anyone without through a mod and the entire internet seeing, so feel safe.
I doubt this place can cause any shalom bayis issues because of the way that its impossible to contact one and another and the mods are super strict. (AND AWESOME)
P.S. – mod, I’m having problems signing in. I had to go on incognito to do so. Any idea what’s that about? It let me sign in but when the page reloaded it was like I didn’t sign in at all. Tried 3 or 4 times.
Try clearing your cookies, or signing in to the main site, then signing in to the CR. Thank you for the compliment.
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantI didn’t hear anything about a ban. As far as I know where I live fires will be like normal
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantA new CD
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantBoth
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantDaasYochid-like I and other stated above it depends on the person. Not everyone is getting these videos. In fact I had not heard of the short “addictive” clips until opening this thread. Over the 2 years I have gotten WhatsApp I think I have seen perhaps 5-10 vidoes/clips.
Putting a big ban on it is not the right way. Everyone has different things that help them, they need and work for them.
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantWhatever apps, internet, or social platforms you have-it doesn’t really matter.
The ikar is, how is it affecting your life, your ruchniyus? Are you wasting time? Do you even NEED this in your life?
Everyone is different.
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantI do have whatsapp,I enjoy whatsapp over texting primarily because since you can record your voice I feel like I’m actually having a conversation.
I think it depends on the person really. Most of the people I hang with don’t have it so I’m rarely on it, but I do know whatsapp is primarily used by the “new generation” and some of the dangers of it are
– The mass text
– Anyone with your number can see your photo
– Mulitmedia
– Addiction*****
I know so many people my age (teens, e20’s) with it and they tell me all their friends update their profile picture at least once a week, change their statuses over 5 times a day, and must answet to all their groups and if they don’t they feel they aren’t good enough. Just how people need to be in the latest style. On some level it has aspects to a social media platform and I know many people that ditched for being on for hours…..
But if you are like me, you know a few people in other countries, a handful of family members- basially enough people that you don’t check it more than one a day-I think you are fine. I personally did not get any useless movies or clips bei g shoved on me on WA. The only thing I get is tehilim requests besides for my personal conversations. So for me-it’s not a problem.
If you are only getting it from a few people then you could request them to stop so you could use the app how YOU see fit.
It really depends. But those are just some of the reasnons a general bad was put onto it.
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantNewbee: Don’t compare children to food.
I know many people whoose children married israelis and because of this find it hard to talk to their grandchildren. At least black kids speak english. (Most of them do)
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantAs I stated before, you must look at the kids needs. If your child is very attached to her minhagim than she shouldn’t marry an ashkenaz if she is sefardi. That is a need for her. But to tell your daughter not to marry an ashkenaz because he will be different and it’s just not for you is riduculous. We are all Jews.
Pretty is the eye of the beholder and society shoves down our throat this image what beautiful means. Just because someone looks different from you does not mean they are not pretty. It may be hard to see at first because wee all been brainwashed to think pretty = ___________. But why can’t you give it a try?
Don’t just dismiss anyone that has the right middos and sounds like a PERSON meant for your child. Whatever his/her background, race, color, weighth, or heigth may be-just try it.
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantJoseph- I’m not sure if it’s sad or funny that a lot of the examples you gave apply to me. What’s wrong with redheads I say?
Anyway, I would definitely let. It’s enough society treats people with hardships as 2nd class for shidduchim, and there we go and do it to all the people who were just born a different color or race. It’s preposterous. Who CARES if she/he is black, hispanic, redhead, blond, tall, short, overweight, has freckles, is a convert, baalei teshuvah as long as they are the right person for you or for your kid.
If ANYONE read the story supplements to both AMI and MISHPACHA over pesach a lot of stories were about shidduchim, and about the kids needs over the parents wants. I grew up OOT without all this shtus. I think it’s so sad people will refuse a shidduch over money, yichus, race, or so on-refusing to even look into if the actual person behind it is compatible to be a wife or husband-not an item being shown off for its beauty by the family he/she marries into nor looked at as simply a color or country.
We really need ahavas yisroel.
And even more so I think, we need to listen to our children-to the kids of today. Why do you think there are so many divorces? Why are kids so miserable? Don’t set them up with someone picture perfect or what you want. I have a very talented, good looking friend with yichus, money and everything and was turned down a few times because she had it all. There were parents who admitted to her that she was just too much for their kid, as their kid wanted someone simpler. On the other hand many people would grab her up without thinking if that’s what their kid needed at all.
Obviously if your boy has low self esteem and although he is short he wishes to be taller than the girl to feel like the man
OR
Your daughter needs all the latest brands and feels she needs someone with money to satisfy her
OR
Your son is just looking for a simple family, no money-but one that has generations of rabbeim that he can learn from and teach his kids about
than that is a NEED for your child. In each scenario the kid will have to give up on having something else, but that is what the child needs. But don’t fool yourself into to non existent needs.
I’m sorry this is so long, but I felt this just had to be said.
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantBut must you all wash at the same time? And sit at the same table…?
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantOkay but how does it work, need you all eat together?
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantUh…there aren’t weddings during sefirah
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantWear I live in Israel it’s extremely common. Girls sweatshirts in the malls ussually have hoods and don’t go up to large sizes versus the mens. Since a lot of schools don’t let girls wear hooded sweatshirts a lot of girls by from the mens section.
I’m sure its fine as long as you can’t tell.
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantIt sounded as he did not sing but just composed from the OP.
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantBesides that my friend just told me although for men they need 3, women need 10. I heard women just need 3. Anyone know for sure? I really would like to start doing this.
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantI answer amen to guys mezumin and stuff.
But how does it work, must you all wash and eat together?
What if you are in school and girls are washing at various times during the break but a group of girls whom all ate in the same classroom want to make a mezuminet together, can they?

It was really hard for me to stop because I love reading, I was the kid who read 127 hours one summer from the public library, and now I don’t read anything at all.
Best solution-don’t get your kids started on non jewish books, don’t live in an area where most kids read them, its accepted, or in reach of a goyish library.

I really do not understand how cleaning the chandelier when you have 3 kids yelling at you and crying each for some other reason while you are so stressed that chas vishalom if you don’t clean it out your whole house isn’t kosher for pesach – “a love for hashem and his holidays”
But whatever makes you people happy I guess. If that really makes you smile, laugh, and bring you up spiritually-GO FOR IT.
I’ll stick with sweeping, mopping, cleaning out the toys and kitchen cabinets. I mean, I don’t even have to check my closet, food doesn’t go in my closet.
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantTachless it comes down to yourself. I really don’t care if the world cleans for 4 weeks and I’ll clean for one. I’m the one getting it easier.
Shopping613 🌠ParticipantI get that families with small kids have a harder time but seriously, do spring cleaning another time. It makes so much more sense than stuffing it all into a month of misery. I guess our shabbos meals are very simple and in my opinion its better and easier that way. We always have the same soup, challah, and chicken and side dished vary from week to week. Nothing major.
You don’t need to have a million things for it to be a festive meal.
