OTD is people who are PUSHED OUT , not people who have left.

Benjamin Disraeli whose parents converted to christianity when he was 12, was prime minister of Great Britain in the 1870’s . Even though he lived as a christian, he would speak about his jewish roots

I know some people who married “alternative people” and when they found out, they were devistated. I dont know whose idea the Shidduch was, but the shadchan who arranged these matched should really pursue another profession

In any protest, there are 3 groups of people. The people who are there, The people who being protested against , and outsiders who are looking from the outside.

The parade was not seen as being sympathetic from the outside , as it was not seen as an appropriate place for this parade, however the murder of Shira Barki, changed that narrative. Unfortunatly the murderer should have been in jail and was released, he looked charedi and acted like Pinchos. It changed the whole narrative.

Protesting the parade yelling Toeiva, toeiva at the participants might give chizuk to those protesting, however it will be videotaped and posted on youtube and people who really have no opinion will not get a positive vibe from that side. Even if they were opposed to the parade. Many opposed to the parade, felt differntly after the murder of Shira and do feel different when people call other toeiva

This is going to sound a bit counter-interutive, but sometimes protests against something backfire even if its what it says in the torah.

There have been protests against chilul shabbos and they dont work and frequently backfire. Protests against movie theaters open shabbos cause more people to go. Rav Elyshiv told people to protest a movie theater in Netanya open on Shabbos and its still open to this day.

Is it worth to protest a Movie theater on Shabbos if more people will go because of the protest (against ‘Relgious Coercion”)

Protesting an “Alternative Lifestyle Parade” might cause people not only not to listen to your view, but cause them to insult the torah as well. They might be quiet if you say nothing, but quote Vayikra and then they will curse out the torah as well and insult it. Causing even bigger chilul hashem

The top 4 candidates running for US president all support “alternative forms of partnership”

Running against such policies is not a winning issue anymore. And even related issues like in NC are not winning, NC is paying a big price for related laws

Many MO Rabbis have come out against it too, Like Rabbi Steven Pruzansky

However it is a problem in the US protesting such things nowadays because you come off as a “hateful bigot”, One woman even R’L used the torah as a weapon against a christian minster demanding to be stoned on the spot for being one .

It is not as easy to be a frum jew as you think. Direct Anti-semitism is not really an issue in the US anymore, but there are other things that are issue.

many jobs require you to work late or on weekends (Sometimes you get make trades, sometimes you cant)

Many people need to have Power Lunches or similar and since it isnt kosher, you cant really participate. You might have a boss who is a woman and you have to be very careful how you behave around her.

Food is not as much an issue in NYC area, but leave NYC and food IS an issue, kosher food is not so easy to get

In general societies response to relgion is Live and let live meaning you can be as relgious or not as you want to be, However you cannot impose your religious belifes on others, you cannot do kiruv on the job, you cannot make comments about Avodah Zarah, “Alternative Lifestyles” or anything else you might have learned in yeshiva, these are grounds for termintion

Israel supposedly doesn’t deny entry to any Jew.

    Not true

Israel famously deported the Mobster Meyer Lansky who tried to make Aliyah

Israel also deported “Crazy” Eddie Antar who was in trouble with the feds

Also Sometimes Israel will not allow Kahanists to enter the country

Someone has to provide to money for increased kollel Stipends, Increased Child allowenced and solders for the IDF

Where do you propose it will come from. If there are more learners and less earners, the earners will have to give more , simple economics

Speeches should almost always be said in ENGLISH and if for some reason you cannot speak english you should get a proper translator who will translate into english after every few sentances

It is rude to give a speech in any other language without a translator unless the majority of the audience does not speak it.

(If you are in a differnt country, It is proper to speak the language of the country, In France it should be given in French

In NYC and the immediate suburbs, there isnt a “community” like there is elsewhere. In the MO world there are more centralized schools like SAR which while located in Riverdale serves Westchester and Teaneck.

North Shore High School which serves Great Neck, Roslyn and parts of Queens.

Hebrew Acadamy of Nassau County serves the entire Nassau County (except for 5 towns area ) parts of Queens and Suffolk counties as well.

In the Yeshivish communities many send their kids “OOT” to schools like in Long Beach , Riverdale) and Peekskill where the schools have little to do with the immediate neighborhood

No MO school takes Non-Jews. That is downright slander. Maybe there are Solomon Schecters or some other simialr schools that dont check, but MO Schools under Torah Umesorah are strict about only taking Halachic jews (They might take some who arent , but are under going conversion)

Many times Rabbeim give mussor shmoozes to an audience that they know well and they say things to an audience that they know well. When someone repeats these schmoozes to a different audience they dont translate very well and it backfires .

I dont remmeber all the details, but a big Rav went to a Shiva call of a man who buried his son and said something like how priviledged he was to have had this son for whatever time it was and the father was comforted. Someone nearby heard this and later when to a shiva call under similar circumstances where a man was sitting shiva for his son. Not only was the man not comforted, he made this situation alot worse and people nearby tried to get the man to stop with his “menachem Aveil” and he refused saying he was repeating the Rebbes words.

Just because you heard a schmooze from a Great Rebbe in one situation, doesnt mean you should repeat it in another, It might not translate well and might make things worse

There is nothing dangerous about Pokemon go. There have been some people who have done some foolish things, but people do foolish things in all sorts of ways. If they werent being foolish with Pokemon go, they’d be foolish elsewhere. Some people find it enjoyable and actually its healthier because it makes you walk and get exercise (I do have issues with the game making shuls, yeshivas, etc pokestops or Pokemon Gyms, but that is another issue) and others think its stupid. Do what you find enjoyable.

There was a report recently about people getting killed because they were taking dangerous selfies on such things as a side of a cliff. There is nothing dangerous about selfies, however it is foolish to take one on the side of a cliff

We do not know exactly what Rav Shteiman was asked, or who asked it. Or exactly what he answered

We are only hearing 3rd or 4th hand of a translation . In many cases Gedolim give different answers to differnet people depending on circumstances and even if this story was related fact for fact it could have been mistranslated

Sometimes people just like something better, It might have no halachic meaning, but just an esthetic meaning.

Like wearing a white shirt vs a Polo type shirt. Doesnt have a religious meaning, but the wearer might like the Polo Type better

So if the rent is overdue and you cant pay and you are about to get evicted with your 5 children and you dont know what to do. Worrying is assur because it shows that you dont belive in hashem because you 2 month old infant wont have a crib to sleep on tonite

The Israeli election is not exactly a good indicator of charedi population

Satmar for example do not vote in elections and Rav Shmuel Auerbach said there was nobody to vote for and his followers did not vote (Likely costing UTJ a Knesset seat) also not all charedim vote for charedi parties. More than a few voted for mainstream parties like HaBayin Hayehudi and Likud (They know this from election results in Charedi districts especially Bnei Brak

from the 2015 election results in Bnei Brak

    United Torah Judaism won 59.35%

    Shas 23.97%

    Yahad 5.5%

    Likud 4.57%

    Habayit Hayehudi 2.35%

    Zionist Union (Labor) 1.28%

The only solution that would work is forcing everyone to pay into a communal fund, but that would never work for many reasons

    Among them

    1) You cant force non-relgious jews to pay if they live in a religious community

    2) The issue of different Hashkafas like Satmar vs MO schools (Do MO’s want to pay for non-zionistc yeshivas that dont teach secular studies vs charedim who do want to pay for secular studies)

    3) How do you really know how much money people really have to pay without seeing tax returns, pay stubs and bank accounts

    4) Someone might be shunned by MO’s for not paying, will they also be shunned by Satmars for not paying

    5) Are you really going to force eldery on fixed incomes to pay

    6) Who decides what is “Luxuries” in order to determine what to pay. Should someone give up a new car to pay for the communal fund.

    7) and even if you Shun someone and it works, they can just leave and go elsewhere , where they arent shunned . (Shunning is the only real enforcement that there is in the US)
