I’m also curious to know if these non frum families are paying tuition or not.

for the most part yes they are paying tution, there are a few schools who cater to BT and are willing to forgo tution for at least a year for a kid who is in Public School

Please define are extremely not particular about kashrus

Does that mean for example that they will eat Haagan Daze Ice cream and not Mehadrin? Having an O-U and eating it does not make you lax on Kashruth

It does perhaps say that, but it also perhaps says that the parents and administration of that school are less concerned about the inevitable (or possible, if you prefer) negative influence they will have on the other children.

It also says the adminstration is not willing to write off their fellow jews unlike the Charedi schools who will refuse to let them in. They are willing to take the risk that they might be a bad influence in the hope (and they are more successful than you think) that a good influence will occur on them

You and others are making an assumption that if one gives into the Arabs, they will leave you alone and not kill jews. We are arguing that is a false assumption and they will try to kill jews anyway , no matter what is done unless we defend ourselves

If MO schools take Non-frum students , which they do, you cant expect them all to be frum after school, The Charedi schools do not usually take non-frum kids. At least some of the non-frum kids will become frum so they school is a sucess

And that is what leads to the startling number of people who associate themselves with MO who are not Shoimrei Torah uMitzvos.

There are many people who want to attend an authentic service and belive in hashem but for whatever reason dont want to follow all Halachas, They might attend a Young Israel and they are welcome to go there with open arms.

I was in London once and Kosher Food seemed more expensive than NY, however that could partially be because of the Dollar-Pound conversion. When i went a Pound was $1.65.

In my experience Kosher food was more expensive in Europe than it was the US and the portions smaller. I got very small portions in London and Amsterdam. Rome gave me decent sized portions

    Rav Elyashiv?

Rav Elyshiv was known to be very Machmir on everything, Amazingly they even mentioned this in the Art Scroll Biography

Modern Orhtodoxy is as orthodox as Charedi however the biggest difference is not everyone who calls themselves MO follows all the tenets, MO says to keep Kosher everyone, but some people who call themselves MO will eat dairy or fish outside the home. The people on the right will then blame everyone else who might be MO for those people who are a little more on the edge. In the charedi world you are either with them 100% or you are not one of them, in the MO world its more shades of grey

I didnt see this on YWN today, but there was a stabbing in Tel-Aviv today, Do you really belive the Stabbing in Tel-Aviv really had anything to do with Har Habyis, the Arabs think ALL of Israel is occupied, not just Jerusalem

FYI there is a place closer to the Aven Shisiya than the Kotel plaza. There is a shul, Sorry I forgot the name that is directly in front of the Evan Shisya. It was built there on purpose. Its somewhere in the Muslim Quarter

There definalty is a stream in some communities to ignore natural disaster warnings, I dont know exactly why. I know plenty who did not evacuate Far Rockaway before Hurriance Sandy and some even went to shul the day of the Hurricane. I know others who ignored warnings for Hurricane Irene in Lakewood and did not leave the radio on (There was a special Radio Station set up for Lakewood for this event) Thankfully Hurricane Irene didnt turn out to be such a big deal, but Hurriance Sandy was a big deal.

It seems Hurricane Joquin will miss us B’H but that doesnt mean one shoulndt have been ready before when the warnings were that it might hit the NYC area

    Regarding accents

Listen to a video of the Queen of England Speak and then listen to Eliza Doolittle from my Fair Lady speak, you will hear the difference.

If you are from England , find a video of Rudolph Giuliani who has a NY Accent and listen to him and then find a video of former president Jimmy Carter who has a southern drawl. You should heard the difference

The publically post many times (At least the ones Ive seen) that the chickens are going to tzdekah. The video published showed the chickens getting thrown out.

I dont know what a live chicken costs vs how much they sell each kapporah, but I am guessing its about $5 a chicken, or so . its not alot of money. $18 pure Tzdekah could do alot more

DY. That might be true, However most people think thats its for tzdekah is its almost always advertised that way so its not far fetched that most people think its for Tzedkah and not Nefesh Tachas Nefesh.

I am not sure as many people would do it with a chicken if they thought the chicken would get thrown out and they would use money so it goes for Tzdekah instead

Giving Money lets the poor choose what they need to spend on better. Tomche Shabbos only gives bare basics (I used to deliver sometimes for them) but families especially with children need more like Milk, Fruits and Veggies which Tomche Shabbos generally doesnt give

Syag: In a lot of places, such as mosdos, who do kapporos, it’s the money you pay for the chickens that goes to tzedaka.

Then just use the money and skip using a real chicken that will get thrown in the garbage

As per several stories posted right here on YWN

If you need to make an obscene gesture at someone for a Mitzvah , you lost whatever zchus there is for the mitzvah . There is never permission to do that. it was a tremendous Chilul Hashem that picture

I see Kaparot every year and they shecht the chicken and throw it into a giant garbage can with other shected chickens.

They do not have a butcher anywhere near the area. You are not allowed to butcher meat on the streets of NYC, you need to do it in a processing plant. There is alot of waste that needs to be properly disposed of for sanitary reasons and only the processing plants have that capability especially on a mass scale

Chickens left out in the hot sun spoil and have to be thrown out. You need to process them quick enough so the meat remains fresh.

Throwing them in a bin and leaving them there for hours spoils the meat

If you must insist on doing Kapporat with a Chicken do it on a chicken farm and not on the street of 13th Ave in BP. The farm knows the proper way to store the chickens before and after the Kapporat and proper ways of sanitation.

BP is no place to store, and slaughter chickens

There are no churches on the Har Habyis only 2 Mosques (Al Aqsa and Dome of the Rock)

The Church of the Holy Seplucre is about halfway between the Jaffa gate and the Kotel Plaza along the Arab Bazzar street (Or whatever you call that Arab Bazzar from the Jaffa Gate to the Kotel).

The supposed place of where a cross was carried the Via Delorossa most go on after leaving the Tunnel Tours of the Kotel, the other side is the Via Delorossa , It is not on the Har Habayis

You cant understand Geordie accents without subtitles (Ive heard that accent its tough to comprehend)

They dont sound at all like The “Queens English” or Cockney which are the 2 british accents most americans are familiar with.

I agree with the OP though, I think Europe is cool and ive been to a decent chunk of Western and Central Europe (Italy is my favorite)

I dont have a problem with Medical Marijuana, I have a problem the way the kashruth Agencies are broadcasting they are doing it. Is there a need to put an article in the NY Post or Kashruth Magazine. Can anyone ever remmebner a product that got so much press when it became kosher

yes they are suggesting Hashcgha for what they say is “medical Marijuana”, It was in and Issue of Kashruth magazine and the NY Post. but if you ask me it was actually using as a gateway to Hashghcha on Marijuana in general when it becomes legal in states where jews live (NY, NJ and FL) which will happen soon.

The OU has said they want to put hashghca on medical Marijuana

I have not been too happy for this rush to make a hashghcha for Medical Marijuana. I am not sure a plant needs such a hashghcha , but even if it does is there really a need to publizie it in the NY Post and Kashruth magazine, do it quietly
