Israel real estate is very expensive, Unless you want to live in Arad , Ahskelon , The Middle of the Galil or some outpost on the West Bank you will pay alot of money for housing.

takahmamash ..I knew a neighbor who was a NYC public school teacher, he made Aliyah and the only job he could get in israel was a painter, he had to come back and did not return until he retired (with a NYC teachers pension). I know people who were Lawyers here and are barely surviving there because they cannot pass the Israel Bar Exam in Hebrew.

The biggest challenge is genarally poo-pooed, but it is serious. It will be your inability to speak Hebrew perfectly. No matter how well you think you will be able to speak Hebrew like a sabra, you probably wont be able to and this will impair your ability to get a good job as good jobs requires a mastery of Hebrew immigrants just cannot get.

No matter how much you think you can read hebrew or Ulpan you will never be good enough to get a good job. The best jobs in Tel Aviv and Heriliyah require a level of hebrew only a native born can get. And apartments in Israel are expensive, if you think they are expensive in Brooklyn or Monsey, they are exactly more expensive in Jerusalem and you make less money

Not sure when you are going, but if you going for Succos or any other Yom Tov dont forget they only keep 1 day and most people hold you need to keep 2 days (Except maybe if you are Satmar as I think the Satmar Rebbe held even tourists keep 1 day in Israel)

    b) places to avoid All Arab neighborhoods & enclaves.

    c) Places MUST SEE Kossel & Tzefas

The Old City of Jerusalem IS an Arab enclave, Just act like a tourist and speak english and you will be fine.

Also Kever Rochel and Maarat Hamachpelah are in Arab Conclaves

You should decide if you want to see some of the sights or only visit Kevorim or some combination

I read the article and I took it with a grain of salt. As I saterized in the anti-vaccine thread, but it went over people. The Internet (and Tzniut) have become the whipping boy for every social ill in the frum community. Someone got a cold and the internet is blamed. Someone got a parking ticket, It was because of Tzniut.

People have been going OTD for centuries and there wasnt an internet whipping boy for it. The Haskallah was not founded on the internet.

People leave religion because they are disastified with it, that disastification can come from perceived corruption (sometime real unfortunatly) because they dont see it having meaning in their life to frankly too much of it and seeing falsehoods in it and inconsistancies.

People who are happy and fulfilled in the frum community are not going to the internet. The people going are those are who have grieveces of some sort and looking to validate those grievences and find like minded people.

In this case it might be sunglasses or a hat, but those things can snowball into bigger issues., The person find out the hat or sunglasses is just a chumra or Hashkafa and then discovers other things are also chumras or hashkafa and the who system collapses. He then goes to the internet and finds people who the same thing happend and then eventually goes OTD. Was this really the internets fault?

Did you read the book Off the Derech by Faranak Margolese. She documents a few cases in the book where a Chumra lead to someone going OTD.

One example was of a boy who refused to wear a hat. The father would not budge and it became a struggle over the hat and eventually the kid went OTD

A horror story from wearing sunglasses probably exists, but there are also probably horror stories from people who did not wear them because of some Chumra, like they were driving without them and the sunning sun (Especially on the snow) got in their eyes and they got into an accident or they just had eye surgery and needed them and they did not want to go outside and answer every yenta’s question why they were wearing them

Part of the MO creed is Zionism and Aliyah. Many are saying they cant be an armchair zionist and therefore make Aliyah so while the MO community is shrinking in the US, the Dati Leumi community is growing is Israel and is about 4 x the size of the MO community in the US

And if it does unfortunatly the temptation for Averirahs can be strong in many people and it can affect people who didnt even do the averiah. Hashem can forgive you for Averiahs, however sometimes the effects can still linger and tshuva doesnt get rid of it

There are PSAKS saying you cannot throw out someone from non payment of tution, these are routinely ignored

There are PSAKS they say you cannot kick someone out because they are a little slower than other students , it is routinely ignored

Now there is a “PSAK” saying you cannot throw out non-vaccinated children and we should “enforce” this one.

And Joseph you are saying the same thing as me. Sometimes you have to ignore a PSAK and get a differnt Rav if he is not right for yo

    zahavasdad

I say this in this circumstances, but if you get a “Psak” not to vaccinate, you need to get another Psak and if nessasary get another Rav as well

Ultimatly in the end you will have to convience the NY State Assembly, Senate and the governor that the people of East Ramapo refuse to pay tax increases and want the state to pay it instead. Its not about me or anyone else here, You can disagree with me, but that is the reality.

Museums and Hospital can also be “for Profit”. Generally I think in NY most hospitals are non-profit, but that is not the case for the US in general.

There are plenty of museums that are “for Profit” Ripleys Belive it or Not or Madame Toussut in Times square are “for profit”.

The difference between for profit and non-profit is what is done with the profit. A non-profit has to put the profit back in the business, the for profit is allowed to take the profit out of the business

People think non-profit means charity, which it doesnt. The Green Bay Packers are as much a Non-profit as BMG or Tomnche Shabbos according to US Law

March of Dimes, Red Cross are well known charities that do have businesses (The Red Cross for example makes money from blood donations)

I think the largest real estate holder in NYC is the Catholic Church.

NYU is a commerical enterprise as is the Museum of Natural History and the Hospitals. Non-Profit does not mean it doesnt make money

In new York state if a non-profit owns real-estate, it can be exempt from property taxes. So a shul or a church for example is exempt from proprty taxes. But also if a shul or a church own a house or apartment building and rents it out, that building too can be exempt from property taxes

I dont know why Roosevelt got a bailout, Im sure the reasons arent the same as East Ramapo.

JMO trying to take revenge or punish the students already in public school probably isnt the best method to use for publicty. You need to gather sympahy for your cause to get the state to help your cause. Gutting the public school to bare bones will likely gather sympahy for the public school parents

People are making a farce out of Kashruth if they insit on a secondary sticker on perfectly kosher product. I wouldnt be suprised if some say its an AVERIAH to eat the twizzlers without the extra sticker and its the same product with or without the sticker.
