I think this is one of those things that some dont get, Some people just like or dislike certain foods. I am sure there are plenty of good cooks there and make lots of Yummy food. people have differnet food tastes, I dont know why its so hard for people to get that.

Ive seen books and Shirum and the “Holiness” of certain foods and people who claim jews should not eat “Goyish” food like Sushi and Pizza. There is nothing holy about Pizza and Sushi and there is nothing Holy about Gefitle Fish or Challah, if you like to eat it , great and if you dont eat something else.

And If you think I dont like any Hemish food, I actually Like Kishka. Its all personal taste and I dont consider Kishka any more Holy than a Roast Beef (That is what we usually eat in my house since I like that)

Actually I dont Like Challah either, I find that repulsive too, usually We use Bagels instead. The dough of a Bagel is alot gooier and chewier. There is nothing more tastier than a proper bagel from a good Bagel store.

Not much of a bread eater except for the gooier chewier ones like Bagels or some fancier ones Ive seen (Dont like Sandwich type breads either like white or rye (Except in a Deli Sandwich).

Nobody said anything about making fun of anything except I refuse to eat foods I dislike (I do eat Challah , Gefiltle Fish and Chopped Liver if I am at someones house and its served to me, It rude not to eat food served to you)

Who said anything that I said only animals are food, Apples of course are food too.

I have definatly heard Gefiltle Fish called “Holy” in fact there is a whole book on “Holy foods”. Some I like some I dont really care for. Dont really care for chicken myself and there are others.

Frankly I think some are just shocked that someone could dislike certain foods that they were used to

I didnt say I couldnt eat with without fainting or vomiting, I can eat it if drained in Horseradish, but you dont choose foods because you can woof it down without vomitting. I can eat Chopped Liver (Something I find even more repulsive than Gefile Fish) without Vomnitting , but it doesnt mean I like it or want to eat it.

I eat foods I like to eat, not foods someone tells me I should eat because I wont faint or Vomit

I said and I repeat, There was more enthusiam last year and this year is likely to be a dud and last year turned out to be a dud because of the way it was run and If I was in charge Id make changes to perhaps get better response, however my ideas would not get much traction because people are not willing to think outside of the box and admit that maybe a partial shabbos to start is better than full shabbos (at least the first time).

Invite people for one meal and one service (Friday night would probably work better) and see how it goes. Alot of people are not willing to give up a saturday for Shabbos

I dont care if you like or dislike what I like. You are not me, I happen to like Sushi and find gefile fish vile. You can like whatever you want. If you hate Sushi, good, there is more for me.

We are differnet people and like differnet things. You can find vile anything I like and I wouldnt care.

People are told that certain foods have some sort of “Kedush” well they dont, they are generally just foods you are used to or like. If you are used to and like Gefitile Fish, its a nice food to eat. if you cant stand it , then its vile and disgusting and nothing holy about it

Funny thing is , I think in one of the videos someone actually suggested just that to serve someone Gefilte Fish and they will be inspired.

If you dont like a particular food, serving it to them is not a positive experience.

If you are going to invite someone, Make sure you make them foods that they like, not foods you like or you think will inspire them

Japanese , Korean and Chinese characters are very different and its not hard to tell the differnce.

Chinese characters are very fancy caligraphy and require alot of skill to write them, Korean writing is very simple lines and circles and actually quite dull especially compared to chinese. Japanese is somewhere in the middle , it is not as fancy as chinese

I pariticipated last year and I had my guest bail on me last year and it seems it happend to alot of people as well and even many who attended the first meal left at some point during shabbos and by Havdalah there were very few guests left.

And even getting guests was hard as many people did not want to give up an entire saturday and sleep over someones house (not commonly done in the general world)

I saw what happend last year

And frankly after speaking to people last year, if they want to be more successful they need to persue this a different way. You are not going to be very successful you cant expect people to keep shabbos at first, you need to give them a taste and see how it goes and if they dont like it, accept that as an answer and move and and if they are interested give them more , but not too much at once

That is probably true or close to the truth.

“the gedolim have clearly stated that MO theology is idolatrous and heretical.

If this was true one could not eat the food from an Apikoras, and the O-U is considered Kosher to almost anyones standards

Gyp comes from Gypsy because people thought the gypsies would trick them out of their money (Gyp them).

Chinese auction is not offensive to us because we didnt know where the term came from

Squaw Valley probably isnt offensive to most of us either, even though Squaw is an offensive term for female Native american

CT has a point and its not funny, however most of us (including me) do not get that Chinese auction might be offensive. wherever that term came from sort of lost its meaning.

I was once speaking to someone on the phone and she says to me that I should “Jew Down the Price”. The person had no Idea I was jewish and didnt even think that was offensive. I do sales and normally you are supposed to be composed over the phone (They called me , not a cold me from me) and I told them how offensive it was to say “Jew down the price”

I meant workers were not all kind, but there were workers of all kinds Many kinds of Chassidish and Yeshivish and MO’s . Should have corrected my typo

I dont know what it was, All I can tell you there was a running joke that the fish meals were the Chabad meals

I used to work at a place owned by Satmar and during the “Holiday season” they would provide dinner to the workers because they had to work late because of the extra customers.

Even though the place was owned by Satmar’s the workers were all kind and there was a running joke about some meals being Satmar meals and other being Lubavich meals. It seems the Lubavichers would not eat the meat from the Satmar place and would only eat the fish meals

Sam, are you claiming that R’ Moshe’s teshuvah was based on misinformation?

I dont have an answer here, but Many times I see the exact same quote in regards to tshushvas. For example There was a Psak recently from Rav kanivesky regarding Eiden and Smart phones and many said it was based on misinformation.

They survived the haskalah much better than traditional Orthodox Jews did.

Not true. You might be thinking of Oberlander which survived because Hungary was hit later in the war, however jews from Poland/Ukraine (Galacia) was one of the biggest places for the haskalah in fact how often do you hear much about jews from Galacia except in a history book even though many jews come from that area (They especially came to the US)

Personal relationship here does not mean anything “against halacha” . It more means, you get along, ask each other about your families maybe shoot the breeze and then get down to business (Down to Business does not mean anything against Halacha) it means REAL business like in buying and selling.

If you come off as cold and hard , you wont get the business

Israel should implement a policy prohibiting any Jew from ascending to the HH”B.

Such a law would be impossible to enforce, you cant ask everyone person what their relgion is and some might very well lie

Actually taking a female coworker to lunch is a seperate issue

What if you are taking someone to lunch as a business lunch in order to discuss some sort of business (Alot of business deals sort of work on informality and personal relationships..ie people only buy from people they like)

There are also company lunches in order to create some sort of comadary and make a better business environment

according to R Krohn (and others) in his book about naming a child, yiddish is secular.

Exactly what defines a language as secular or relgious? Just because today only frum Jews speak Yiddish (except for some old people) that was not the case in the past. Yiddish secualr culture has a strong history with the biggest classic being Tevye the Milkman (Fiddler on the Roof)

According to people here, its proper to kick out people for not following your exact lifestyle and the people who are more accepting of people who might not follow everything are guilty of their averiahs because they do not kicking them out.

And I know of people who were kicked out of certain groups because their either cut their beard , cut their Peyos or refused to shave their heads

Funny I dont know any MO jews who will eat in the homes of Non-jews unless the person has plastic plates and orders food from a kosher place.

There is no Pick and Choose on Kashruth for MO , Either its Kosher or its not, It is true that not everyone keeps everything, but they really arent MO people
