These people are destrying yiddishkeit and maybe even worse than Avi Weiss

The Hamavaseer picture has been posted all over the internet and many articles have been written about it in all sorts of media. They have made a mockery of the wonderfulness of Yiddishkeit, people see yiddishkeit as no differnt than the Taliban and some of the comments were worse. They see yiddishkeit as some backward misnogomyst society and see the torah lifestyle as backward, wrong and evil. Is that a “Kiddish hashem”.

One should show the beauty of torah at all times

And besides, hevai dan es kol adam li’kaf zechus – when in doubt, we are supposed to assume the best of our fellow Jews.

How come then some dont say the same thing for YCT and Avi Weiss?

Again one is not supposed to veer from the torah from the left or THE RIGHT.

Actually the comparisons between the Taliban are more alike than you realize, The people at Charlie Hedbo were murdered because some muslims wanted censorship and didnt want people to see pictures of Mohammed. Hamaser is censoring photos because some dont want to see pictures of women

If Hamaverser wants to write their own stories and take their own pictures they can do whatever they want. They can print whatever they want from their own materials.

However if they borrow someones elses Photographs or Articles (Like from AP or Reuters) that have to follow the rules of those materials not make up their up

In the western World, copyright laws are similar (Not exact there are some differences like the length of copyright)

Israel most likely follows the European laws in this regard (Although Im not 100% sure)

I am sure the photograph was copyrighted. If you have ever taken pictures you would realize this photograph was likey taken with better equipment and more importantly good sight angles which most people dont get.

There is an option under US copyright “Fair use” where you are allowed to use such a photograph and pay for it and maybe alter it under certain condtions. I have seen parodies of this photograph that were clearly parodies and that would likely be ok. However HaMaversar was trying to pass off this photograph as legit, that is different. A parody must clearly be a parody

The photograph is likely copyrighted and belongs to someone. You need that persons permission to alter it

There is a reason why you cannot divert from the left or the RIGHT. People here rightly condem YCT for going to far to the left. But few are willing to critize people for going to far to the right, How far to the right must one go before there is general condemnation of the acts.

Here the pictures were clearly photoshopped and a major world leader was cropped out of a famous picture

The only other language that MIGHT be considered Holy is Ancient Greek. and the reason is because if you had a copy of the Septuagint , you could read the torah from it and be Yotzei which is not the case for any other language

They did not speak Yiddish in Germany. At some point around 1800 or so German Jews stopped speaking Yiddish and spoke German. Before then they spoke a different Yiddish which has been lost.

There was a large population in the Netherlands who were majority Sephardim (The Spanish and Portguest Synangouge in Amsterdam is one of the largest shuls in the world)

Only Jews eat gefilte fish. Is gefilte fish now holy?

I was reading some book on Chassidish philosophy and it did claim that Gefitile Fish and Kugel was holy.

The book went as far to say one should not even eat Pizza at Melava Malka because it “non-jewish”

However, everything else being equal, i.e., there are two containers of milk in front of you; one is cholov yisroel and one is cholav stam, Rav Moshe suggested that you go lifnei m’shuras hadin and drink the cholav yisroel. But if the chalav stam is freash and the cholav yisroel is not, or the cholav yisroel is finished, he permitted to drink the cholav stam…l’chatchila.

Serious question on this. You are at a table and there is a container of Mehadrin Ice Cream and a container of Haagen Daze. According to this Shee-ta which should you eat

I dont think those who only eat Chalav Yisroel are jealous of those who dont , nor do I think those who eat Chalav Stam feel guilty.

However I do think those who eat chalav Yisroel sort of have this holier than Thou attitude over those who dont. If It has an O-U on it, its perfectly fine. And Ben and Jerry’s is 10000% better than Mehadrin. Quality is important. there is no Mitzvah to eat lousy Ice Cream

After finding out that the eruv was broken, I hope they came back after Shabbos to bring home the baby in the stroller.

Maybe you misunderstood, there were 2 Eruv. The greater Monsey Eruv and the Viznitz Street eruv (Or something around their small area where they lived) It was the smaller Viznitz eruv that was down, not the greater Monsey Eruv.

The people I was with were not chassidish

Assuming his posek is working within the framework of Orthodox Judaism, yet holds of the Eruv. Why cant that person carry?

I was once in Monsey for Shabbos and the people I was with were pushing a stroller and they held by the greater Monsey eruv. We passed by a Viznitz area and they were yelling at us H’Eruv G’Broken . It seems their eruv in their local area was down and did not hold by the greater Monsey Eruv

I have never heard a Rov who says someone who eats Chalav Stam is eating TREIF. You rav might have said you cant eat it, but he would never say someone else who eats it is eating treif. He would likely say its ok for him , but not for you.

If that were the case then the O-U , O-K etc would not be considered kosher since they do allow it.

FYI if you have ever been to a dairy farm you would see there is no such thing as Chalav Akum, Chalav Yisroel etc. NOBODY milks cow anymore. Its all done by machines and automation. Some metal pipes are placed under the cows Utters and these pipes are only made to fit a cows utters, no other animals. The Milk is then pumped out and send to this giant vat or bottle and there is no way to add anything to the vat. The Milk is then pumped on a truck to the factory.

I am aware that Rav Moshe said they need Gerut L’Chumra. However I dont know when his Psak came out and when Rav Yosefs Psak came out.

The mass emigration from Ethopia did not occur until after Rav Moshe’s death and more research had been done.

It is Slander to talk about Dunkin Donuts like that, the ones that are Kosher have normal Hashshchas (Like the O-k) or the Vaad of Flatbush, they are not 2 bit Hashghascas.

DY according to Rav Yosef its not intermarriage, its totally Kosher

Now I dont know what would happen if an Ethiopian decided to become Yeshivish and then wanted to marry someone from Bnei Brak which follows the Psakim of Rav Elyshiv who held they were not jewish. Rav Yosef not only held they were jewish, but was even opposed to geruth L’Chumra for them

    Rabbiofberlin, with or without geirus?

Again according to Rav Ovadiah Yosef without geirus

By them we know that a few short decades ago they were practicing Christianity. And Christians tend to marry Christians not Jews.

Are you saying Rav Yosef didnt know this?

Sam: How do you respond to Dash’s sentence immediately prior to the one you quoted? Namely, “You can’t Pasken that someone is not jewish simply because of the ramifications that would occur if they were jewish.

The Karities are more in this area, their Gittim have not be ruled correctly, but I think the Psak has been their Kiddusim have not been correct either so its ok to marry a Karite and they are Kosher jews

With children it can be difficult to get them to take the medicine especially if it doesnt taste good. The Posek said it was ok for children to take treif medicine if that was the only way they would take it

The Halacha was prior to World War 2 if you moved to a community you became part of that community and followed their customs. So if someone was born in Vilna and moved to Baghdad (and stayed) , they became an Iraqi jew even though they were born in Vilna.

After World War 2 , everything became mixed up and this no longer appled. However Rav Yosef was born in Baghdad prior to the emigration of most jews from Iraq so he was Iraqi even if his ancestors came from Spain

Rav Yosef was techinally Iraqi (Eiduth HaMizrath) not Sephardic from Spain if you want to be techinical. But he is considered the Gadol HaDor for Sephardim and his son (as was he) is the Cheif Sephardic Rav of Israel

The Ethiopians were practicing a form of Christianity before they moved to Israel. And there’s no reason to believe that they hadn’t been intermarrying the local population in the hundreds of years before that.

Not according to Rav Ovadiah Yosef whom is generally looked upon in their case as they would fall under more Sephardish than Ashkendzic.

Ethiopia is fairly close to Egypt where the Rav was born

Many members of my family are learners. In fact more are learners than earners. It is not a fraction, that story was an extreme case. I know what goes on, Its discussed at family events.

I am well aware of how the community thinks, I know a relative who turned down a very nice bocher who was the son of a big doctor because he didnt want to promise that he would learn past 10 years in favor of a bachor who promised to learn for the rest of his life who came from a kollel family

(The richer bocher was not a snob or anything and I was told he was a very good catch from a very good family, just that he didnt want to promise (He didnt say he woulndt, just that he couldnt predict the future and didnt want to make a promise if things would change)
