Brick, NJ : Jewish Woman Killed In Supermarket Parking Lot


A 66-year-old woman was R”L killed Thursday afternoon in a supermarket parking lot when a car pulling out of a parking space hit her as she walked toward the store’s entrance.

Barbra Bolong A”H was walking in the parking lot at about 4:15 p.m. towards the entrance of the ShopRite supermarket at 774 Route 70, township police reported.

At the same time, Josephine Caputo, 78, of Lakewood was backing a 2009 Honda Accord out of a parking space in the same lot.

The rear of the car that Caputo was driving struck Bolong, police said. The Accord continued in reverse, and hit a parked vehicle, a shopping cart corral and a second parked vehicle before coming to a stop.

Several witnesses attempted to help Bolong until emergency crews arrived. However, Bolong was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Caputo was not injured. Police did not say whether charges would be filed, but the crash is being investigated.

Rabbi Mordechai Gabioff, the Misaskim Coordinator of Lakewood, and a Chaplain with the Ocean County Sheriff Department worked closely with the local wuthorities to ensure proper Kavod Hames was given.

Misaskim units from Lakewood were dispatched to the scene, and the Nifteres has been released to the Lakewood Funeral Chapel for a Friday morning Levaya.

  1. That parking lot is a nightmare! I go to that shopping center, mainly for the Kohl’s store there, and it is always a hazard.

    Terrible and shocking tragedy, so many terrible things are happening each and everyday. We have to be more vigilant in our Avodas Hashem, so that we can open the gates of Rachamim in these turbulant times.

    May the nifteress be a melitzas yeshara for Klall Yisrael.
    May her family suffer no more tzaar.
