Gingrich: Obama ‘Surrendered’ With Apology To Afghanistan

Newt Gingrich said Thursday that President Obama “surrendered” when he apologized to Afghanistan over the burning of copies of the Quran near an American military base in Kabul.

The incident has resulted in violent protests throughout the country, resulting in multiple deaths — including that of two American soldiers.

Gingrich said that the incident has been “blown into a huge incident by various fanatics in Afghanistan” and argued the president did not “defend the integrity and the lives of the people who serve under him.”
“There seems to be nothing that radical Islamists can do to get Barack Obama’s attention in a negative way, and he is consistently apologizing to people who do not deserve the apology of the president of the United States, period,” Gingrich said.

The former Speaker went on to say that Afghan President Hamid Karzai should be apologizing to Obama over the incident, not the other way around.

“If Hamid Karzai, the president of Afghanistan, doesn’t feel like apologizing, then we should say, ‘Goodbye and good luck, we don’t need to be here risking our lives and wasting our money on somebody who doesn’t care,’ ” Gingrich said.

  1. Good for Newt! Someone needs to say it. Obama is so afraid to offend or slight any Muslim be in radical or not, yet he doesn’t demand the same respect for his own people. Please let November bring us some good news.

  2. Obama is not entirely wrong for apologising . A carefully worded apology is wise as it eases tensions, though it should have come with strength and whith the message that violence will on no uncertain terms be tolerated-which would encourages Afgahns to back off, not like the pushover he is that only emboldens the terrorists. Gingrich should have explain this-now he just looks like the hothead loose cannon that he is reputed to be.

  3. In this Newt is absolutely correct…and the other Republican candidates should join him as a united front. Obama started his presidency with a “world apology tour”
ENOUGH !!! We have nothing to apologize for…if anything, we are more moral than they are.

  4. My position is somewhere in between #’s 1-3. Make it short quick and stop kissing the backsides of the world leaders.
We also should get the hell out of that horrible country. They will turn on us and Israel in a heartbeat, Karzai had already indicated that by his comments about supporting Pakistan in a potential conflict with the US.
The Russians with their brutal tactics couldn’t beat these savages, and the US fights cleaner…not going to defeat them short of leveling that terrible place.

  5. Newt, you must admit, Obami didn’t bow down this time. The Prez is making progress. That’s why he wants four more years. He believes he would be a model prez by the end of the second term.

  6. I’m surprised at your reactions, to the arabs what happened is the same as for us burning a sefer torah on purpose, and though their reaction may or may not be disproportional a thorough clear and loud excuse was definitely called for here, all they got was a quiet excuse in a letter…

Newts’ proposed reaction would be surrender, it would completely undo what the US has tried to accomplish in that area…

  7. Obama blew it again. There are reports that the terrorists wrote in their tuma book and according to their law if there’s writing in the tuma book it needs to be burnt. Thus they were burnt but obama was more interested in making the military look bad than to tell the truth.
