Out Of The Mailbag – To YW Editor (Thanking Hatzolah Members)

yw logo9.jpgDear Yeshivaworld,

I love your website, and read it daily. Like my friends, and so many others, I love the “out of the mailbag” letters.

Although the letters all have a purpose, and give the readers an opportunity to discuss an issue (be it tuition, education, shiduchim etc), the comments are usually regarding a “negative” topic.

I was thinking if we could spin that around one time.

Let’s pick a topic today.

“Hatzolah”

Practically every person has a story of how Hatzolah saved their life, loved ones life, neighbors life, a strangers life etc.

At this point in time, there is basically a Hatzolah in every Jewish community across the globe.

Wouldn’t it be a great idea if we can all, right now, submit a comment thanking Hatzolah for all their wonderful work that they do?

Kol Hamekayem Nefesh Achas Miyisroel K’ilu Kiyam Olam Maley! One who saves a life, is if he saved an entire world!

Let’s make this the biggest comment thread ever on Yeshivaworld – with only positive comments!

An avid reader in California.

  1. The members and volunteers and their families all deserve thanks and praise from me and ALL of us. I’ve been treated by Hatzolo in my neighborhood several times and these young men have all done a superb job, including getting quicker help in the emergency room. All of k’lal Yisroel has been and is being helped by them .Thank -you and may H’K’B”H reward you and your supporters with all your needs..

  2. Absolutely. There are so many wonderful people and organizations we owe tremendous amounts of hakoras hatov. Hatzolah, Bikur Cholims, Shomrim, Chaveirim, Tomchei Shabbos, all the wonderful tzeduka organizations, all the wonderful chesed organizations, the Rabbeim and Yeshivos which teach tinokos shel beis raban.

The list is of course in no particular order. And of course there is so much chesed to go around this is far from a comprehensive listing.

    Yidden are amazing.

  3. Thank you for posting a thread under the category of ‘Wow, Me KeAmcha Yisroel’. Starting off with Hatzolah is a great start.

    1. My best friend’s husband is on Hatzolah. Besides the many lives that he has saved, he goes one step further. He buys children’s toys and stuffed animals for his ambulance, so that when he has to take a child in an ambulance, that child will be comforted by a new toy and focus on it instead of their emergency. The money he spends, ENTIRELY HIS OWN, may add up to a specific dollar figure; the comfort to a child: Priceless

    2. Behind every great man is a woman. For every Hatzolah man who is out there driving, saving nefoshos, or dispatching, there is a woman, be it wife, mother, sister who is making Kiddush herself by a Shabbos meal, doing the Seder solo, unable to attend a simcha, family get-together, or a child’s party and giving up on these expectations willingly in order so that their hatzolah member can benefit the klal. Although they don’t wear the Hatzolah jackets or radios, they wear an invisible badge of tzidokonus

Me Ke-Amcha Yisroel, Goy Echad Ba’Aretz!

  4. Thank you Hatzolah for being the Shlichim of Hashem to help save the lives of so many people, those close to me and those whom I don’t know.

  5. i’ll never forget how hatzolah saved a child who was hit by a car’s life on my block in crown heights
    they are the true heros.

  6. My neighbor is a hatzala member. I see how he runs out right as he’s starting a meal and at many inconvenient times. Each time I am amazed at their sacrifice and their willingness to help a Yid in need. Thank you and may the coming of mashiach put you out of business very soon.

  7. In honor of all the “numbers” out there and their halves and quarters-
    HKBH Y’shaleim S’chorom.
Thank you for always being there for us.

(Please consider this a $1,000 ad in the journal.)

BTW, Letter Writer, are you a Hatzolo member? If so, double thanks.

  8. The reader and blogers of this sight are obsessed with Hatzolah!

Every complaint about our community automatically receives a reply ‘yeah but we have Hatzola’ Is hatzala the only chessed that we do. Is that the only thing we can be proud of? Is it the answer to all problems? Hatzalah is just one part of a much bigger picture. There are so many more shtadlanim both paid ( they are almost all sacrificing a much better paying job) and volunteers on all levels from schools & education, shuls, government intervention, legal aid, Tzedaka aid, mikvaos, Kollelim, Bikur Chollim on so many levels:( medical referrals, hospital apt. rides, sick children, camps, support group counseling etc. etc.) hachnosas Kalla, family service counseling, kiruv rechokim (and krovim) edrerly services and of course chessed shel emes. The number of nonprofit organizations that we collectively run, manage, support both financially and actively attest to this. We are truly an Am Hachessed mostly with tremendous hatznia lechesd.

Lets grow up and stop being enthralled by the lights and bells of the action and visibility of hatzala. Yes they deserve thanks and appreciation but so do so many other dedicated public servants. What message are we sending our children? Why do all 5 year old boys dream of being a Hatzolah man and not a Gabbi or Shammish of a shul?

Although not everyone can join Hatzaola, shomrim or chaverim (as so many 5-15 years old boys dream of) we can all volunteer, lend a hand and look for ways to do quietly do tremendous Chessed.

BTW: There are plenty of large community without Hatzola but none without a shul, school, mikva and Chevra Kadisha!

This is an issue about this forum NOT HATZOLAH!

Finally thank you to all Hatzola Volunteers (including some very close relatives of mine).

  9. Thank you so much Hatzoloh for all the work you do, especially the Kiddush Hashem you make when you treat people in other communities.

There was a case in Europe where a Muslim was in need of their help, they rushed to the scene and practially saved his life. May you be more busy with them and less busy with us! lol!

    Be blessed!

  10. This will not be the fastest growing thread on Yeshivaworld.

I hope I’m proven wrong, cuz we need to give thanks to these men.

BUT, the fact remains that people don’t like to comment on good threads…only when it’s negative commenting.

That is the nature of people.

Thanks to Hatzolah around the world for saving lives!

  11. Last week a my neighbor’s child(BP) stopped breathing i watched the whole incident from my window with in 2 minutes there were about 7 hatzalah members on site. This was about 3 AM!!!!

  12. My family has called Hatzolah twice (once for me). My BIL is a member. Truly amazing deeds that these guys and their WIVES & FAMILIES do. Yasher koach! “V’chol mi sheoskim b’tzarchey tzibur…”

  13. Thank you Hatzoloh!

As for what the Hatzoloh volunteers (or at least my husband) want from all of us the most:

    CLEAR AND WELL-LIT ADDRESS SIGNS!

  14. Growing up as the son of a hatzoloh member, I would like to ecspecially thank my father (as well as all the other fathers who are members) for the constant lesson of ahavas yisroel and chesed.
No function or event or day or night was ever more important than the suffering anonymous yid that called for help.
many a pesach seder was interrupted (let alone shabbos) sometimes twice or three times, but that was the natural thing to do. we waited patiently for Tatty to come knowing he was doing what a good Jew does.
Unlocking and opening the door while my father quickly got himself ready to leave was my way of chipping in to save a few seconds so that the patient in need could be helped faster. it made me feel a part of the action.
as the years have gone by and more and more of my time is dedicated to communal involvement, I sometimes stop and reflect that the lesson of communal responsibility and dedication that I learned from my father’s actions have affected me more than I or he ever though it would.
    Yasher Koach

  15. We needed the services of Hatzalah twice, both times they arrived quickly, responsibly and gave advice that saved the day. KOL HAKAVOD

  16. If a goyishe ambulance would be called in place of Hatzala, many times the person would’ve been dead by the time they arrived. a goy on my block told someone that he only calls hatzala when he needs help, cuz the goyishe never arrives.
    what a kiddush Hashem!

  17. We should show more $$$$$$ support to this organization that gives sooo much of themselves and their families to soooo many people ALL of the time

  18. I needed to call Hatazalah once for my father. I was so nervous that I forgot the number so I ran to the fridge to get it from the New Square orange juice. My hands were shaking so I dialed wrong but the next time it worked. They came so fast and were no nice and calm, which is very important when you are watching your father suffer. B’H everything worked out.

Thank you Hatzalah for everything you did and will do.

  19. I was once in a serious car accident in the 5 Towns, and the Hatzalah members were so nice to me. I had three children in my car with me – and they calmed us all down and took us all to the hospital.

we were all hurt, but nothing long term.

Thanks to Hatzolah of the “RL”.

  20. i live in har nof.
here we have a hatzolah called “hachovesh”.

i would like to thank them birabim here.

    from your buddy on sholzen….

  21. Comments and miracle stories are very nice to read.

However, all the miracle stories cost Hatzolah LOTS OF MONEY.

Instead of a comment, or besides a comment, PLEASE send your local Hatzolah a nice-size check.

    Mrs. K.
    Lakewood

  22. Lets give praise to Mr. H Webber, who, with the help of the Satmar Rav Reb Yoilish ZYA, founded Hatzoloh. The idea came after a guy from Williamsburg could not be treated on time because the ambulanc e arrived too late.

    THANK YOU MR. WEBBER….

  23. thank you thank you!!
& also thank u thank u to our children’s Rabbeim & teachers, they are some of the most important people in our [the parents!] lives!!

  24. Hatzoloh guys are from a different planet!

Thank You, Thank You, & Thank You.

What you’ve done for me & my family can never be repaid.

  25. Thank you Hatzolah of Lakewood – You are the kindest people in the world. Only Hashem could bentsch you with all the brochos for what you do, besides the biggest chesed of saving lives, you will go to the end of the world to use kind words, to go get the husband in yeshiva, to make sure somebody relaxes the kids – You should all have amazing Hatzloch!

  26. AC:

    I second that motion!

A big yasher koach to Mr. Webber of Williamsburg for bringing the concept and implementation of Hatzolah to Klal Yisroel!

  27. Thanks to the entire XXXXXXXXX family!!

Editor Note: While we like the fact that you are thanking someone in particular, we feel that this is not the forum for specific names. Hope ya understand.

  28. thank you w.h. hatzolah for a quick response in front of yu rosh chodesh adar 5765 and for waiting in the waiting room at harlem hospital- in case you were the one and see this comment thank you from me,my parents and my husband(elul 5766)!

  29. THANK YOU,
FOR MY MOTHER IN LAW FOR DISPATCHING, FOR THE LAST 35 YEARS,
I HATE GOING THERE FOR SHABBOS BECAUSE SHE IS ON THE PHONE MOST OF THE TIME ON SHABBOS, YOM TOV ETC,

  30. I was just in NY this last week and had 2 experiences with Hatzolah. While walking into a restaurant in Flatbush, I slipped on the ceramic floor because it was wet from the rain, I fell, hurt my knee, but before I even hit the ground, a member of Hatzolah who was in line was there to assist me. He was so kind and concerned and even though I made my way to the table where my family was waiting for me, he came over to the table before he left to make sure I was OK and to inform me if I wanted to go the hospital even later to just call and hatzolah will take me. The next day my son’s finger was swollen and sore it was late in the evening and I inquired of a relative if there was a peditric clinic, like we have at home, and she said just to call hatzolah they will come. I thought what a minor think to bother them with. When I called the first thing I said was “this is not an emergency” yet they were at our door within seconds and were reassuring and helpful. My Hakras Hatov goes out to Hatzolah of Flatbush and Boro Park. And yes, my check is in the mail to this amazing organization. We don’t have hatzolah in our city!

  31. Now this is an article I’m proud to be a part of.
Thank you Hatzaloh members everywhere, for all your dedication, care and hard work.
And thank you to the person who thought of this. We need more such articles.
    Kol Hakavod.

  32. Thank you AC for mentioning the wonderful Hershel Webber. I would also like to thank the members for always being so informed HALACHICALLY as far as treating patients on Fast days, differences between T B and YK etc….

Also, the effort they make on Shabbos by rushing with their motorcycles and then having to walk it back after being finished with the patient. Yoshar Koach for the amazing dedication!

  33. Unfortunately, my father was niftar three weeks ago. However, Hatzoloh tried valiantly to revive him for 40 minutes. They treated us all with the utmost respect at a very emotional time. I thank them very much.

  34. My name says it all!!!!

Hatzalah- You help to extend life to people to the last second. Every breath a person has in this world, every heartbeat, is another moment for a neshama to accomplish in this world. Thanks to HATZALA these moments are made possible.

May you continue to be successful and in your zechus may we need you no longer – with the geula among us bimhera v’yamenu amein!

Every Hatzala memeber and dispatcher deserves a special place by the kisai hakavod!!!

    Shkoyach! 🙂

  35. Hatzolo is wonderful! And so are the people who finance it. Many times now they can do minor work to avoid having to go out to the emergency room – they glued my knee up for me last night!! They also go over and above their duty if necessary – one Hatzolo member took my baby to a neighbour on Yom Kippur and then went to my parents’ shul to call a family member to tell them what had happened and that I was on my way to hospital (my husband was out of town)

  36. Pushita-Yid #15–
The reason that everyone is so taken with Hatzala is not because of the ” lights and bells of action and visibility” but because of the tremendous sacrifices that their members make by giving up their personal lives totally. At any hour of day or night, Shabbos or Yom tov, they are on call. How many times do you sacrifice your Shabbos seuda or sleep or Pesach Seder or time with your children or wife or parents, miss Simchos of closest relatives and friends, and in general live in a state of constant alertness like a soldier on the battle zone. While, Boruch Hashem,as you pointed out, Klal Yisroel has so many other important chasodim and they all deserve praise and some may be more important than Hatzala (as chazal say that Talmud Torah is greater than Hatzalas Nefashos) nontheless from the perspective of total sacrifice of a personal life, Hatzala is in a league by itself. And even if Hatzala is not greater than other chasodim why say something negative when everyone is so positive. What’s bugging you?

  37. I live in an area where there is no Hatzolah.

But, I want to my two cents in anyway (as I frequently do.)

Thank you Hatzolah, for every single life you save, and for every time you save people from the extended fear by your dediation and fast response.

We are all proud of and grateful to every Hatzolah, in every community that has one.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

  38. #15 – Pushita_Yid:

The reason that everyone is so enthralled with Hatzolah is because they save lives. Thats it.

BTW, which large community (what do you call large?) does not yet have Hatzolah?

Anyways, thanks to all the Hatzolah members in all neighborhoods for putting their needs on the side for undetermined amounts of time and using it to save lives.

  39. It is hard to write about Hatzoloh in general and about Hatzoloh members specificly. These people are literally angels. I feel humble thinking of them and the great work they do. We can sleep securely knowing, even subconcsiously that these people are there for us at all times of the day or night. I personally can’t fathom how one awakes from his sleep, drops whatever he is doing to care for someone he doesn’t even know. For those that aren’t familer, each Hatzoloh call can take up to an hour and change depending on where the call is and where the patient was transported to. We don’t realize how much these special people(and not to neglect mentioning their devoted wives who awake from the radio chatter etc.) give up of their sleep, life and money( gasoline[ which is close to $2.00 per gallon], personal equipment, training) to serve us. Like most things in life, we don’t appreciate them and take them for granted until that unfortunate crisis arises at 3:00 am, and all are asleep. Who do we turn to then? HATZOLOH. When seconds feel to us like long minutes there they are, your unassuming neighbor pulls up to your home and executes all necessary life saving techniques, reassures and comforts you like a father and mother all the way to emergency department. I have heard that in areas which is fortunate to have a Hatzoloh the treatment one gets by the ER staff if brought in by Hatzoloh is unparalled to one brought in by a local EMS squad, and the reason is obvious that Hatzoloh demands that their patients be cared for.I live in a community which isn’t fortunate to have a Hatzoloh and let me tell you that having the local EMS crew pull up to you in an emergency could be disenchanting. You want your caring and sensitive brother there when you are in a crisis, not some punks who are in it for the fraternity and excitement.YOU WANT SOMEONE WHO PERCEIVES EVERY PATIENT AS IF IT WERE HIS CHILD, MOTHER AND GIVE OF HIS EVERY FIBER TO HELP SAVE THAT PERSON, EVEN IF THAT PERSON IS 95 YEARS OF AGE.
Thank you Hatzoloh for all your time and effort you give on behalf of your fellow Jews and may Hashem repay you with only health and success. Also a special thank you to Rabbi Hershel Weber the founder of Chevra Hatzoloh in November 1966.

  40. I know I’ve asked this before, but I never received an answer. Can ANYONE please explain why there are so many people like #15 who turn everything positive & good into a negative?

Our lives are often touched by tragedy & difficulty, yet the selfless members of Hatzalah are always there for us. So is Zaka, Chesed Shel Emes, Shmira, Shomrim, Chaveirim, & every Yid who cares!

Please…can’t you #15’s & all the other dimwits just say something nice for a change without a “but” to follow???

  41. i think the city is the most thankfull thet would be over whelmed with calls just think about it and its realy something that you have to be fully devoted

  42. there isnt a jewish community where there exists a hatzoloh unit that extraordinary stories are told about their mesiras nefesh and dedication to the people of that greater community.hatzolah members are truly soldiers in the army of hashem. may it be the rotzton of h’k’b’h’ that we shouldnt have to use the hatzolah services, however, we are all gratefull that they exist in our neighborhoods and they deserve our full support.

  43. Hatzolah! They have touched my life so many times. I am multiply handicapped, and not the easiest patient to work with since I detest the hospital. Usually, but the time Hatzolah is called, my condition is pretty serious – but I try to fight back if I can. These wonderful men have come to my aid time and time again, patient and understanding, and always trying to do things with more kavod than I ever believed possible.

Each and every member is a respected member of the community and respect by almost every medical professional they come in contact with.

The only thing I can say, is that I wish for Moshiach to come quickly, and put you guys out of business. But until that day – B”H for Hatzolah.

    Keep up the great work!

    Tzippy 🙂

  44. #15, can you please reveal your true identity, we would all love to see what a REAL FOOL LOOKS LIKE!!! You are a disgrace to yidishkeit, taking a holy topic like this and making mush of it. Did ya notice how NO ONE jumped onto your bandwagon???? Get a life dude, or, go back to the “other” blog site!!!

  45. Thanks to Hatzolah, Mesaskim, Lev Lecholeh-Mitzvah Men, Bikur Cholim, S.H.A.R.E of New Square, Hamaspik, Yedei Chesed, Rodeph Chesed, Shomrim, Chaverim, KYFD, Ramapo PD, Clarkstown PD, Rockland County Sherriff Dept.. All of these as well as other agencies have helped me and my friends and family. I am greatful to all of them

  46. Hatzaolah you guys are great in all neighborhoods all over. Its really something that is just a real kiddush hashem, it says something about the yidden how we always make ourselves available to help one another no matter time, weaher, etc

    A GROISA YASHERKOACH !!!!!

  47. Thank you to all Hatzolah members for your dedication and hard work on behlaf of the klal!!
We had a teacher in elem school that required us to memorize hatzolah’s numbers it was the smartest thing any teacher ever made us do ! (The brooklyn hatzolah #’s are (718) 387-1750 & (718)230-1000. )

    Thanks again!

  48. How can any yeshiva world member just read this blog without adding their shtikle!! I cannot imagine any of us living in a town with an organization like hatzoloh being untouched by their stupendous work!! The drop and run technique that all the volunteers have developed, irrelevent of what they are in middle of, is nothing short of incredible. But as mentioned in some other posts, their ability to just run out of the shabbos meal or the family simcha can only come with the backing of a supportive wife…..and children. the kids too learn to deal with their chumash homework on their own even though they were in middle of learning a real difficult rashi with their tatty or finishin that baseball game on sunday without him that had been promised for so long cuz tatty had to take the last call into the hospital. the children too have to be commended for being part of the mitzvah. another thing most of us dont even realise is that our hatzoloh members are SO knowledgable, they probably know more than any of the doctors you get to see once you reach the emergency room!! thank you so much to all you hatzoloh members out there in all towns and in all countries………..and to all your families!!!

  49. First of all, thanks to the reader who brought this to our attention- the Hatzalah members really do deserve a standing ovation. Second, Thank you so much Hatzalah for all you do!

  50. my family & i have been helped by hatzolah NUMEROUS times!what care & peace of mind they provided!!!!!

the respect & care they show is amzing – its wonderful to have such special people there for you when in a crisis or in terrible pain or short of breath!!

the respect for privacy & making sure onlookers give space & privacy is enormously appreciated!

thanks again for all you have done for us
may we all not be in need of your services!

  51. I cannot find the words to adequately thank Hatzolah, or even express my appreciation for they have done for me on a personal level- threefold.

    1. How they have helped me, and thus making a huge difference in my life.

    2. How they have helped some of my family members in very serious situations, thus have a great positive difference in my life.

    3. How they have helped so so so many of our brothers and sisters, thus greatly enhancing each and every one of our lives.

Thank you! thank you!, thank you!, thank you!, thank you!……………………….!!!!!!…………………………………..!!!!..

  52. I think there aren’t enough words do describe these amazing Hatzalah volunteers. The most incredible part is that they call to check up to see how things are going!!!!!!!!!!!!

  53. To #15 & # 56 (mine was # 2).You both have valid points. I would not complain about the praises;they are well-deserved. If you feel that there is not enough praise for the other chessed operations,go and start your own .You can also create your own chessed organization instead of putting down the praise. If all people cared about others the way Hatzala does,we could bring Moshiach to a healthy Jewish world.

  54. #3 why are you diluting a thread about the “angels of the night”. #15 were you rejected by Hatzolah?,
PS Part of the story of Mr. Weber, is that the reason he went to Satmer Rebbe, is because one time when he arrived on scene after the victim was niftar already a few hours, he overheard on the way out “Weber killed him”.
I propose the reason of Hatzolah being special is they go when they’re needed, and not only when they’re ready.
One more credit to Hatzolah; They are the ONLY org. that does concern themselves whet kind of “hat” you wear, and on which side of a particular machlokes you stand on, and it certainly doesn’t matter what your social/economic or “chasidic/modern position you have.

  55. TYPO; They are the ONLY org. that does concern themselves whet ===================
They are the ONLY org. that does NOT concern themselves whet WHAT

  56. THANK YOU, I can never thank you enough for all the trips you have made to my house, and thank you to all the wives your understanding is beyond my wildest imaginations. How many wives out there would give up their husbands for over an hour at 12 midnight eruv Pesach, but the wives of Hatzaloh of Rockaway and Lawrence did and I can never thank them and their husbands enough.
