Councilman Yeger Distributes Free Bike Helmets This Sunday

Get a free bike helmet, courtesy of Councilman Kalman Yeger, this Sunday, May 6th, from 12-3:30 p.m., at Gravesend Park, located at 18th Avenue and 56th Street.

Helmets distributed at the event, which is sponsored by Councilman Yeger in conjunction with New York Citys Department of Transportation and Parks Department, will be individually selected and customized.

Anyone who shows up can get a bike helmet, but they need to show up in person, said Councilman Yeger. Thats because the helmet will be customized for the riders use, by trained DOT officials.

Gravesend Park was recently renovated and is one of the newest parks in our community. I hope our neighbors take the opportunity to use our great park, said Councilman Yeger. Im grateful to former Councilman David Greenfield and Mayor Bill de Blasio for making the funds available in the city budget for this wonderful event.

The event is open to everyone, children and adults alike. However, children will need a parent or legal guardian to sign a form in order to participate. Helmets are distributed on a first-come first-served basis.

These helmets will go fast, said Councilman Yeger. Sundays helmet distribution is a great way to kick off the summer. I urge my neighbors to come early, enjoy our great park, get your helmet and lets get the summer started!

  1. It is a very nice thing to do but this shouldn’t be done while everyone is in school , most yeshivas don,t end before 3:00 on Sundays.

  2. If there is zero enforcement of the requirement to wear helmets, these will end up on the same shelf as the ones that are bought. I witness kids riding without helmets almost daily (almost because I do not see them doing so on Shabbos). The problem is not a shortage of helmets. It’s terrible compliance. Fix the problem. Don’t buy votes.
