NY Confirmed Cases of Coronavirus Jumps To 105 – Continued State of Emergency

The number of coronavirus cases in New York rose to 105 on Sunday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said.

The new cases are as follows:

Westchester: 82
NYC: 12
Nassau: 5
Rockland: 2
Saratoga: 2
Suffolk: 1
Ulster: 1

The largest concentration of cases, 82, is in suburban Westchester County north of New York City. There are 12 cases in New York City, 2 upstate in Saratoga County, and a handful of others on Long Island and in Rockland and Ulster counties.

Cuomo called on the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to allow private laboratories to do testing to greatly expand the number of tests that can be done.

“The more positives you identify, the more you can isolate people and stop the spread,” Cuomo said.

The Westchester outbreak has been traced to the Young Israel of New Rochelle where the congregation was asked to self-quarantine after a 50-year-old man in the community was hospitalized with the illness. A growing number of friends and relatives of the patient have tested positive.

Cuomo said nursing homes near the Young Israel of New Rochelle synagogue will suspend outside visitors as a precaution. Several schools in Westchester and neighboring Rockland County were closed over the weekend for deep cleaning.

Cuomo declared a state of emergency on Saturday to clear the way for more testing, purchases of more supplies and hiring of workers to help monitor self-quarantined patients. Cuomo said expanded testing by qualified professionals could detect additional cases faster so they can be put in isolation to limit the disease’s spread.

  1. I went to 20 different stores in Flatbush and couldn’t find anyone selling hand sanitizer. I’m not sending my kids back to school until they are fully prepared. My friend told me about this site that has sanitizedirect.com they are pretty expensive but I had no choice couldn’t find anywhere else and I’m not risking my families health. Will update you guys when I receive my order. Just a heads up as I know everyone is trying to find some.

  2. Why are you not listing where the people were as you did with measles. Were they at Walmart, costco, wedding etc. People need to know so they can self quarantine.

  3. Since every store and online retailer are currently out of hand sanitizers it certainly appears that the online site the first poster identified is taking advantage of the situation. You can have an effective sanitizer if you add some rubbing alcohol in your Softsoap dispenser. Remember, Purell is a relatively recent product and we all managed in the past without it.
