WATCH THIS: Garland Says He Could Prosecute Trump Even if He’s Running for President

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland refused to rule out prosecuting Donald Trump over the Jan. 6, 2021 riot in Washington, D.C., saying he intends “to hold everyone, anyone who was criminally responsible” accountable.

Garland was asked about the Jan. 6 riot by NBC host Lester Holt, who specifically wanted to know whether Trump could be prosecuted for his actions relating to that day, noting that doing so would “arguably tear the country apart.”

“Look, we pursue justice without fear or favor,” Garland said. “We intend to hold everyone, anyone who was criminally responsible for the events surrounding Jan. 6, for any attempt to interfere with the lawful transfer of power from one administration to another, accountable. That’s what we do.”

“So if Donald Trump were to become a candidate for president again, that would not change your schedule or how you move forward or don’t move forward?” Holt asked.

“I’ll say again that we will hold accountable anyone who is criminally responsible for attempting to interfere with the transfer – legitimate lawful transfer of power from one administration to the next,” Garland replied.

The Garland-led Justice Dept. has been coming under increasing pressure to prosecute Trump following weeks of public hearings by the Jan. 6 committee.

  1. I cannot understand why DOJ is moving with glacial speed to conduct its investigation and determine whether to indict. I know they want to appear to be “apolitical” but this is becoming a joke.

  2. Investigations take time. Garland isn’t saying anything new. The law applies to everyone. Proud of him since he’s a landsman of mine, our ancestors came from the same area in Lita.

His wife’s grandfather was the infamous Justice Roseman , Roosevelt’s Jewish advisor who told him not to concern himself with any representatives of the Rabbi’s March , so spare us from the Yichus breiv of Merrick Garland

  4. Hunter Biden did nothing wrong and there was nothing of importance on his laptop that he destroyed. He is a model citizen, even greater than Paul Pelosi.

  5. That’s one way to get Trump elected. Biden (or whomever is the Democratic nominee) would be perceived as abusing the criminal justice system to chase down enemies. Being a fascist bully might appeal to the WOKE base, but will alienate everyone else.

If Biden were clever he would pardon everyone involved in the Capitol riot, including Trump. It would show that Biden is a “good sport” devoted to national unity, and Trump would be forced to admit guilt (which is what accepting a pardon does, if you want to prove your innocence you need to refuse the pardon).

  6. I say this as an anti-Trumper: Garland’s statement was perfect. All options on the table. Rushing would be negligent of the DOJ and also perceived as partisan. If they go after him, they better have solid evidence (either direct or circumstantial) that they feel confident they’ll wind up with a guilty verdict. Otherwise, a not guilty verdict would embolden maga.

  7. Ah Gadolhadora is starting to think!! Who woulda thought the day would come. Now take it a couple steps further… maybe just maybe they’re NOT trying to remain apolitical, like maybe the exact opposite of that, maybe they ARE the joke, that would explain everything, think that’s possible?
